Belfountain Coffee Closing!

sounds like macdoc is going to cry. this location, back in the 50's used to be an indian dealer ship, bikers will always go there, what ever the store is. just buy your pet food there and you can park for free.

It was not an Indian motorcycle dealership, although Trimble had an Indian 4 with sidecar and would do motorcycle repairs. Trimble's garage was a Dodge or Plymouth-Chrysler dealership when the redevelopment took place in the 1970's. Back in the early days it was Trimble's blacksmith shop. By the 1920's they did motor vehicle repairs. In 1929 the first forks of the Credit race took place. It lasted 24 hours. In 1930 it was cut down to a 12 hour race. In 1931 the sponsoring club (the British Empire Motor Club of Toronto) used the Long Branch rifle range area for the "Ontario TT" race as it then was called.

Good stuff - there are /were some pictures in the Shed covering some of the local history.
Might have been more bicycle related tho...
Thanks for the history lesson....was a fun northern office for me but the crowds were hectic and the new place has more room.

here is an update.....

It's still not the same.....been stopping by here for yrs now...

[SIZE=-1]Patterson and Trimble Carriage Works
The building that currently houses the Credit Creek Store, the Spa, and Casa Lena was originally a stable, then a forge (blacksmith shop), then carriage works. The last horse was shod here in 1930 and Mr. Trimble got with the times, assuming the franchise for the Durant Automobile Agency. He changed the name of the business to "Trimble's Garage," and set about learning to become a mechanic. His choice of franchise turned out to be fortuitous, and although few of us remember what a Durant looked like, we should make mention of the man, William Durant.

[SIZE=-1]In the 1890s it became Patterson and Trimble Carriage Works, manufacturing buggies used in the good weather (they had wheels), and cutters (on blades), used in the winter months. They also established a blacksmith shop to look after the horses that pulled their carriages. The Trimbel Garage prospered during the war years, and the transportation legacy ended when the last Trimble left the building in 1971.

So was riding by the spot where The Shed used to be, and there is a new coffee shop opened there. Didn't stop, as we went for the icecream down the road. Tons of bikes and the OPP cruiser were parked there. Any thoughts / reviews on the new coffee shop? :)

lol!!
There must have been more to all of this originally....

From pg. 1:

Landlord wants the business for himself maybe?

I'm going with that theory, given how conveniently another coffee shop opened up (i.e. had nothing to do with any complaints about noise, loitering, etc.).

The OPP officer didn't do anything, but chilled and had a smoke with someone else.

As far as coffee quality goes, The Shed will be a very hard act to follow. I'll give the new shop a chance to woo me, but won't have a problem with continuing West for 5k in order to get a proper coffee. There's way too much crap that poses as coffee on this continent and those that know how to do it properly deserve my support.

Is it even that far west.

But I noticed a lot of riders at the old location and I was the only one at the new Shed yesterday. Buddy needs some comfy chairs outside at the new Shed. No real place to sit and chat the way there was at the old Shed.

Yes it is, 5.3Km.

What? Not even a park bench? I guess they'll add that later. They have to, because I'm not siting on the bike with my coffee in hand :)

IMHO, at least to me, it is all about a very convenient location to stop after riding through the Forks, have some rest, ice cream, coffee, chat with fellow bikers, etc. The keyword is location. Most of the bikers will not care if the place is called the shed or something else, but will still keep going to that particular location. I was simply very surprised that there is another coffee shop in place of Shed, because of all the previous talks about pet shop or whatever else opening there. If it's the house owner that opened the new shop, that person really screwed the Shed.

we don't need the shed anymore, the new place is 100% better, they still are working on the ice cream side of the building, it's bigger and better inside, face it, it's the location. good bye shed.

I went past the new business in Belfountain last week. I don't think I'm allowed to buy coffee there since it seems you need to be a member of the CPP club.

Lots of seating but all hard metal - not nice kick back and comfy - lot more seating tho.
Complete staff change - Michelle is gone as are the cute hearts that populated the Forks Shed.

Yeah gotta think the landlord had a hand in the new coffee spot. Will check it out first warm day.
They also need some outdoor chairs.

Mac's right about the seating--it has to be poser/hangout friendly or folks won't bother migrating. Decent coffee, treats and eye-candy are easy to source.

Meh, I don't like the Dufflet stuff. Overrated and overpriced. Wish I'd tried the cheese bagel mentioned previously; it sounds very good.

I will not mourn The Shed. I never found the service to be friendly/overly pleasant. There is a kick *** bakery down the street and to the North...great donuts. Hope they become the new Shed overlords.

Typical story, many landlords and real estate people are pirates, they make higher profits than drug dealers.
Basic greed and aspirations of more money will kill any small business.
10$ says it becomes a Tim Hortons or a Starbucks.

Just keep riding a bit further to the Hockley general store in Hockley village. Breakfast, lattes, and at a reasonable price.
