Any of you have any feedback on this insurance company? Substantial savings with auto and house over TD...but that means nothing if the worst happens and they don't pay out. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Had acquaintances put through the loops when they had an accident back in Christmas. They were insured with Belair.
I caught up with them weeks later and they were basically getting 0 responses from them. They told me to avoid them.

In earlier days they were one of the first companies to try and do their business primarily through the web. I was a customer but never made a claim... they were alright. These days their quotes are okay but I can usually do better

Glad to see you're looking at this as an adult. There is not a lot worse than laying in a hospital bed, all broken and bruised... FIGHTING WITH YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY.
Kingsway was the worst.

Been with them for a few years now, no issues, no claims, prices go down (slightly) every year.
I am sure any insurance company can make a person jump through hoops - Depends on the criteria.
But one thing is for sure, they all prefer to have money coming in vs. paying it out...

Been with them since 1996. Also no claims for us but my daughter had a claim 5 years ago. No issues, good service.
Rates are good too. Have our house insurance with them as well.

Bikes are with TD and they don't come close for Cars & House.

Have had Belair Direct for years, both car and house insurance. I've had two windshield claims and one not at fault accident (rear ended). Wife had a person crash their car into a tree and the debris from the crash damaged her car that was parked at the time. In all cases Belair was quick to resolve to our satisfaction.

Thanks. The house insurance is half of what TD is asking...but the one star complaints are quite frightening and seem to be all the same trend of denying claims:
I'd be willing to bet you get similar one star reviews and stories of denied claims with literally every other insurer. I know that was the result when I was shopping for boat insurance a couple years ago.

Much like cell providers and courier companies, the best you can hope for is least terrible. Add the utterly busted insurance system in Ontario, where everybody cries poor but rates are among the highest in the world, and terrible is dead average. They'll all do everything they can to avoid a payout, as they have zero incentive to act otherwise.

Agree. Here's TD Meloche Monnex:

I thought TD was better than this...I don't know why.

Here's Belair Direct on Yelp. 70 one star reviews vs TD's 59 one star reviews:

So.... is there such a thing as a reputable insurance company in Ontario or are we all facing the same firing squad?

Nobody 'complains' when they have good service.

I would take Yelp reviews with about a pound of salt, but at the same time I wouldn't disregard them entirely.

I expect making a claim with anybody to be an unpleasant process these days, requiring you to pressure the adjusters to keep the claim moving forward

Google Reviews are the same across the board.

For online reviews critical thinking is key as they are easily manipulated. Personally I look for patterns in negative/low reviews, usually as the first step--specially if the pastern is something I will care about.

And the app Fakespot. Try it out on Amazon...you won't believe how many Amazon reviews are fake.
