"Police praised her skilled driving."

"Lauri Ulvestaud, 47, was praised by police for her skilled driving in the 35-minute white-knuckle ordeal"

"Ulvestaud said she tried to slam on the brakes, turn off the engine, change gears and pull up the emergency brake, but nothing worked..........The Kia Sorento SUV finally came screeching to a halt on the shoulder when the 911 operator told her to lift the accelerator and push on the brake"

That's a whole new level of dumb there

Time to call 911, but couldn't find the "N" on the gear selector...

A Kia Sorento can do 190km/h?

Turning the engine off didn't work?? :S
Is this going to be another one of those "My Toyota is going out of control, and I'm going to sue as soon as I pull over" kinda events?

I think considering the situation she did a really good job. Wtf guys? She's doing 190 and she has to reach down and lift the gas pedal with her hand while avoiding crashing. She tried putting it in neutral and turning off the ignition and it didn't work. She had to be on the phone to get help. Everyone on this forum complains how all the cagers are sh*t drivers and then when this one doesn't kill a tonne of people you're still complaining. Given that she is driving a kia sorrento it's a safe bet she doesn't race cars as a hobby  I'm pretty sure she was nearly ******** herself when she hit over 140 on the spedo, as most average people would.

You would need 911 help to tell you to UN-STICK your gas pedal? LOL

It probably could've been done with the right foot in about 3 seconds.

And I call total BS on not being able to shift into neutral.

Well obviously you are a superior human and we can all learn a lesson from you  I am sure she didn't try to lift the pedal with her toe before she pulled the fob and tried shifting gears and called 911 to tell them her car was out of control. If you read the article in the second link posted you will see more info as to why nothing else worked. But you're probably too busy fighting crimes and saving babies to read the article, macho man :D

In the article, the woman claims she tried to use the brakes but it didn't help. The 911 operator told her to take her foot off the gas and use the brake and it magically worked.

Something is rotten in Missouri.

And how exactly did turning the engine off not work???

In the video from the 2nd link, when the vehicle comes to a stop and she tries to exit it, the vehicle is still moving. I guess she didn't think of using the emergency brake or shutting off the engine or putting it into N or P at that point, either.
