Seriously, I hear you, it's not easy but hey if I can do it you sure can too. I've quit a bit over 2 months ago and it is a lot easier now. I saved something like 350$ already which is over 800 cigarettes not smoked !
I'd say that the first few weeks were the hardest. The motorcycle apart from the health benefits is a good motivation. I took the decision to buy a motorcycle after a few weeks without smoking but you can find your own carrot before quitting and use it as a platform.
If I can give you a few advice, I would say stop for yourself whenever you are ready and motivated. Cravings only last a few minutes, when they happen, think of something positive, don't let yourself think about the craving. Personnaly, I also had to quit drinking coffee and alcohol for a few weeks but that was the least of my concern back then.
Just got my SV650S last week. I used to have a Ninja 250R last season and compared to that the SV650 does sit more like a supersport, meaning it is less upright. If you're thinking that the Ninja 250 is uncomfortable because of the riding position, then the SV650 won't be for you. I'm not exactly sure, but look into the SV650 Gladius. Those may be more upright and more comfortable for longer rides.
If you are going to go with the SV650 I highly recommend it. I am loving the bike so far and because I was originally looking for a supersport (R6, gixxer, CBR600RR, etc) it comes very close to them while being more manageable for a new rider. It sounds awesome with a bit of investment on a custom exhaust...mines got the yoshimura slip on and it is very sexy for sure.

Hi,
I was in a very similar position as you. New rider, not much knowledge, similar height and weight. The only difference is that i'm 37. That being said, I wasn't comfortable with a sport bike, and siting on it, I knew it wasn't for me. So I did my research on an upright street bike, or touring bike, and narrowed down my options. I ended up going with what is also recommended here. A Suzuki Gladius SFV650. I bought it new. I have it now, but i'm unable to ride it for several reasons. 1) I don't know how to ride yet... lol I'm doing the M2 course through learning curves at the beginning of May, and 2) my insurance company won't insure me until I have done the course. I did have an experienced rider bring it home for me, and he said it rides amazing. It's not high reving (only a 10,500 RPM redline), but it does have amazing torque. He confirmed it will be an easy bike to learn on, and grow with. It is very powerful. It moves through first and second gear really quick, but in third, it still has a lot of power, and wants to still go. I am happy with my decision, even if I haven't been on it myself yet. lol I'm sure you will be happy as well with this bike. I was quoated about $1300 for insurance with my M2. I felt that was fairly reasonable for a new rider. The bike looks and sounds amazing. Good luck in your decision.

i currently own a 2013 ER6N and it is the BEST naked bike money can buy at that price range BUT if you have never ridden, and this is your first bike, do yourself a favor and get a 250 or the ninja 300.... ER6N (which they say it has a mild engine) is HELL OF A BIKE trust me ... definitely not recommended for new riders... but there will always be that someone arguing against this.... trust me, don't learn the hard way .. it's the best advice i can give you.. good luck.

wait if you're 200 lbs and 33 years old you might be able to get away with the er6n! lol
but be VERY CAREFUL... trust me it is the best bike money can buy i've tried many naked bikes before i chose the ER6N... and if u get the new one, o la la, it is SEXY!

I've heard nothing but great things about the SV650 as well. You can get them at a VERY good price (just a bit more than the price of a 250 for crying out loud). Two of my friends ride them and they are just so similar to the SS in styling. A few mods and they are really attractive beasts. Insurance is better with certain companies, but I don't think with State Farm.
There's also tons of parts and accessories for the SV readily available on the used market.

I'm definitely considering the ER-6N. I heard the suspension can have a hard time if you push the bike too hard is that right ?
