Been thinking..

I've started to get more and more comfortable with my new R1 and it really has me thinking... I love power, always have..EVERYTHING I own always ends up being the fastest/most powerful. But this bike is something else..

So, I took a friends 1050 speed triple out for a ride this week and it dawned on me...the bike felt really down on power..so much compared to my bike I felt odd. I mean the speed triple is a fast bike with a healthy midrange and it felt weak to me...

I find myself constantly rolling off to keep my license with my bike...god the throttle lock is a miracle invention.
I mean I've owned 2 x zx9r before and have been use to big bore power...maybe its me but I think my shiny black R1 will be for sale in the spring. Time to get a bike with under 130hp and a little more comfortable.

Anyone done this before? or had these thoughts? Am I crazy..?
This bike rev's like a love starved coyote fed viagra..I must be crazy

The R6 and R1 power plants are raw and unrefined! I can't think of any other way to describe them.

I think that litre bikes are really meant for super exp riders who take it to the track..not avg joes like me who take them out for a blast 1x week. I rode a 01 R1 10 yrs ago and loved it ..I bought a 2010 thinking id love it too...in many ways i do....i feel the motor is just too much for me and the street.

I might just sell it and get a fz1 or speed triple. I know most wont care about this post....but i know many of you will relate.

I just think you're trying to squeeze the R1 too hard. With the R6, which sucks donkey balls down low, you have to push it so hard all the time. With the R1 just lay back and relax. Worry less about what gear you're in and remember that if you squeeze her she'll scream. Just be smooth and remember, she accelerates fast so don't point her nose somewhere that your brain hasn't been 10 seconds before.

And that said, I love my R1 on the track too, even a tight one like TMP is fun!

I have been thinking the same thing. After owning a Daytona 675 and now my ZX6r as much as I love the bikes their not practical. The comfort factor is lacking and the power is going to get me in trouble with the road or the law one way or the other. I ride in all weather conditions and starting to think that I need something else . . I don't know what since letting the power go will not be easy to get used to :(

I went from a 2 consecutive GSXR1000s to a supermoto and now I'm content with an SV. Dunno. Getting old, kind of like being able to maintain a fun 'rhythm' for street riding that isn't warp speed. We all know the saying... riding a slow bike fast yadda yadda..

My first big sportbike was a 93 CBR900RR. It was a long time ago but I still remember thinking "jesus christ, this a retarded amount of awesome for the street". And now that modern litre bikes are compacted, as light as old 600s and have twice the power of an old Civic CX hatchback.... It's a joke to try to open one up for more than a few seconds and try to keep your license.

But I've always liked and owned middle-weight standards as daily rides. Riding a litre SS on the street (especially where we live) is like using a flamethrower to light birthday candles. It works, but you know it'd be a lot more fun without the ******* and kiddies around. And having a 600 SS on the street is like using a katana to chop a tree down. Great tool in the right conditions, pretty meh otherwise.

I'm glad the hooligan bikes are finally making it to north america. The fun is more street-oriented.

It's not just you, these things are retarded for the street. If you lack the discipline to keep it under insane speed then sell it before you lose your license. But once you've been on a 1000 nothing will ever compare when you wanna hammer it. I switchd with my buddy recently for a little bit since he wanted to try my bike and found myself thinking "wtf is this? when is the power gonna kick in?" hahahah

Well I just sold my 100+ hp Triumph Tiger 955i and am going with something smaller and less power. While it isn't an SS, it is way too much bike for me, and way too big to boot. Right now thinking Versys, but not sure.

Having all that power isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I know exactly what you are talking about I have a SV650 as a track bike, as well as a SV and a 1198 street bike. The 1198 puts a big stupid smile on my face but is really way too much, even the SV quickly gets to 50 over. Thinking of selling or trading the Duc on a dirtbike and just keeping the SV's. But I just love the rush of having 100+ ft lbs of torque on the street and do miss it everytime I ride the SV.

I loved my 1000cc gsxr for the street. The midrange power was unbelievable and the bike was super responsive in any gear. I'd imagine if you stuck with the r1 for a little longer, it'd be hard to go back down to anything less.

The street bike that I ride the most, has 12 horsepower. My race bike has 60 on a good day.

My street bike has a variable power output controlled by my right hand... its genius!

Ninja Z1000, BMW K1200S, etc.

Bikes to consider.

In a year or so, I'll be getting rid of the zx6r and most likely end up with one of the two above for those same reasons.
