BECK TAXI, Crooked drivers should be fined!!!!

Just as bad as restaurants/bars charging 3-5x as much on NY. Everyone does it and everyone will continue to do it. No biggie.

If you know the cab number call 311 (within the city of Toronto) and file a complaint.

TTC was free till 7am last night.

99.9999% of cab drivers are terrible.

My Girlfriend and I stood in the cold at 3 am today for over an hour because I was unwilling to pay $30 for a taxi from ossington to yonge along college.

no fewer! than 8 taxis stopped, all had lights off, and doors locked rolling down the window just enough to demand a price for the distance at least three times the going rate.

if you try to bargain they drive away, my girlfriend tried to pay one the fair but I pulled her arm out as he drove away grabbing at the money in an obvious and transparent attempt to rob her.

I Honestly never experienced such open and dark hearted greed in my life. if my girlfriend had not been there I might be in trouble right now for breaking a window of a criminal cab.

I am sorry to vent and anything threatening sounding is just talk and not real, but I am just so struck.

these people are no less than criminals in my mind, no empathy and no decency.

I don;t know what else to say.

I hate them.

you made her stand for an hour at 3am in the cold over $30 on NYE? is she still your girlfriend?

....

+1 That will cost the cabdriver his licence. Also complain to Beck who will fire the driver.

That's why they put those big honking numbers all over the car.

It's surcharge.

OP-it's the one night that everyone tries to profit on and gouge. I live in the sticks-count yourself lucky as out here cabs charged $150 to get from scarborough to whitby.

Pay to play last night for sure!

Everyone charges extra, after all they are working while everyone else is partying or with their families. If you are going out on new years eve you need to count on paying more at restaurants, at bars, clubs and this includes taxis.

Just put it this way, if they made the same than any other night, most cabs would prefer to stay home and you would be here bitching that you stood for 3 hrs last night waiting for a cab that never came.

I am surprised you even found a cab, a few years back I had to go pick up a bunch of my drunk friends at 3am because they were freezing and couldn't find a cab downtown.

That girl of yours is a keeper since she does not mind being with a cheap *** guy ;)

I'd have taken down the number of each and every one of them and reported them to the city and the cab company. Done that in the past, will do again. Taxi services have set rates to start and per kilometer. If they try to gouge you beyond that, the licensing authorities frown on that and so does the company as I'm sure they're not getting anywhere near their cut.

Poor deduction making fueled by alcohol,

Was not an hour likely just felt like that

She was waiting in a pizza place for most of it

Should've just take the ride & pee in his cab. That'll teach him

Cab drivers are right up there with tow truck drivers. However on new years eve I don't know why you're surprised.

Only slightly less classy than making your gf wait in a pizza joint at 3am on New Years because you don't want to overpay for a taxi ;)

Agreed. In some circumstances, like this one, you just pay up.

OP should have just ponied up given that it's new years + g/f combo.

But I do sympathize with OP regarding taxi fares. It's beyond ridiculous... Paid $80 to get from Mississauga to downtown Toronto the other night. Ludicrous.

I don't know what it's like there but a cab owning buddy here in Hamilton ran the numbers for me one day lest I think he's rich and the results look dire. Ya 80 bucks is a lot of money but nobody's making any money. Something is wrong in Ontario.
