Battery charger?

Yeah, I wouldn't trust those 2/10 amp charges from canadian tire or any of the rebranded ones. Had one for about a year, then it started smoking while I had it sitting on the engine of the car it was charging (engine was not hot or running). Turns out the thing had rusted/corroded and was shorting. Capacitors didn't look so hot either. Picked up the c-tek charger and haven't had any issues with it.

2 amps seemed a bit too high a rate to be charging a motorcycle battery, would get mine bubbling pretty good.

My two chargers (this one 2/10a intelligent charger http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/3/Batteries/BatteryChargers/PRD~0111507P/Motomaster+Eliminator+Intelligent+Battery+Charger%2C+2A%2B4A.jsp?locale=en ) are three years old each, still working fine. One charges the motorcycle battery, and the other is hooked up across two very large six volt deep cycle batteries connected in series for the trailer. No boil dry in either set of batteries.

A brand new motorcycle battery I got came with charging time suggestions based on both 1 amp and 10 amp charge rates. A two amp charge rate isn't going to do anything harmful to your battery as long as the high end voltage monitoring and maintenance level circuitry is working correctly.

Honda dealers carry the optimate chargers as well at a reasonable price. I also have the optimate 4 no complaints

Well since were going by anecdotal evidence. I borrowed a friends 2/10/50a charger of the same variety, and the selector switch fell apart. I was able to open it up and repair it, but It really makes me question the quality on those. And for something your supposed to trust to leave on its own to charge a battery, where either the battery or the charger could catch fire, I'd want better than 50/50 anecdotal evidence.

+1 for battery tender.... have had the canadian tire one many years back.... finally got a battery tender....the bike is hooked up to this whenever in the garage and i am no longer pullingthe battery in the winter... i have heard good things about the optimate, but my battery tender is about six year old and no problems

I got the deltran tender jr. plus and it has always worked and worked well, was and I think it still is $30....so you can spend a little more and get the "best" or spend $30 and get something that does what it's supposed to....ur call.

It's far more than 50-50. The subject has come up several times in past and there are a number of satisfied users of that Motomaster intelligent chargers on this board. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brow...elligent+Battery+Charger,+2A+4A.jsp?locale=en

By the way, that particular intelligent charger isn't 10/2a charger, it's a 4/2a charger. I got it mixed up with another older Canadian Tire charger in my garage that is a 10/6/2 amp intelliogent charger.

Canadian Tire also has a straight 2a intelligent charger currently on sale for $19.95, making it a real bargain for a battery tender. I've got one of these mounted in the trunk of my Benz to keep the charged over the winter while in storage, and that too has always been a set and forget deal for me. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brow...Intelligent+Battery+Charger,+2A.jsp?locale=en

None of my four same-family Canadian Tire intelligent chargers has ever caught fire or caused my battery to catch fire, and neither the car, trailer, motorcycle or garden tractor batteries seem none the worse for wear either after being put on those chargers for extended periods of time.

My Battery Died this morning...
it spent 2 hours on the ctek 3300 this morning and i was back up and running...

i put it to charge overnight anyways... tomorrow should be good as new

Nothing is more frustrating than a dead battery when you are away from home. Back when I had the Ninja 250, I had to push start it on a few occasions (which sucks in hot weather!).

I push started it and got it up and running... but no tach, turnsignals or horn... turned it around and parked it...

I have the Cdn Tire 2 amp automatic charger that others on this thread have. Great charger.
CTC did have one that was garbage and its now discontinued, but this orange one has worked well for 1 1/2 years for me.
