Bar muffs

Heated gear reduces the range further.

The bike has a separate 12v battery like any other motorcycle, maybe I'm missing something electrically. They could have also got rechargeable heated gear like the FireUp stuff, since they are stopping to charge the bikes, they could charge the gear too

Well, either the gear discharges that battery (which isn't deep cycle) or the bike needs to charge the 12v from the big battery (reducing range). Carrying separate batteries on you obviously fixes any issues with the bike. Does anyone make a system where you can put one battery in and it powers vest/gloves/etc or are they all running a separate battery in every piece of gear?

I find heated grips are okay for a cool morning but not a longer cold ride. Grips and bar muffs together work great.

Ah okay, I assumed the 12v battery just gets charged from the alternator as the bike moves, how much would it reduce range, like just 2-5kms, or in the double digits?

I'm looking at buying this for the Motorcycle heated gear I got to make it portable

I'm sure with all their sponsors and power, they could have got a company like Warm n safe to whip them up all in one rechargeable gear in under a 2 weeks, they built those Harley's and Rivan's in less lol... Maybe they didn't expect all that cold, I just felt for them was shivering myself watching

Alternator? Driven by what? Pure electric vehicles require a brain reset as everything that was easy before needs to be re-evaluated once your energy density is in the crapper.

I have no idea how much power heated gear runs (I would assume 100+ watts by the time you have gloves/vest/etc). I also have no idea how much range the livewires have. If you drive the gear off the 12V you probably also have some DC to DC conversion loss charging the 12V from the big battery. In the grand scheme, range hit is probably minimal, but when you are pushing limits, you need to be brutal with your power budget or all of these little things add up and you range is down a noticeable amount.
