Hi All,

Been away from the bike scene for the last 6-7 years! Got a few questions, hoping you guys or gals may have some answers.
I have two Shoei helmets a TZR(2004) and RF-1000(2004), are these helmets still safe to wear?
Tires, BT016 I believe, dated 2005 or 2006, are they still safe to ride on?
Going to do an oil filter change, spark plugs probably coolant also, any thing else I should look into?

I'd say yes to both, but be prepared for some conflicting responses.

"The Book" says to replace tires after 6-7 years, regardless of wear.
 
Tires I'd replace just for the fact it won't be on your mind if you do. The helmets depend. Assuming they have been stored inside and are in great shape then perhaps yes. Again if it's something that will bother you then I'd just get a new one
 
Safety risk on both, should replace for peace of mind.

Helmets: Yes, I'd suggest you replace it. Most common knowledge is to replace the helmet after 5 years, even if it hasn't been used for impact (due to hardening material that won't work as well during an accident over time)

Tires: Yes, replace! There's nothing better than knowing you have the best traction on the road. You'll feel more confident and have a much better time on the road, for just a few hundred dollars. Think of it this way - if you happen to crash due to lack of traction, the damage/time would most likely be more costly than tires are right now.

Maintenance: Oil/filter, Sparkplugs, Coolant, Lube chain....sounds about right. Don't forget about brake fluid too; it's really quick, cheap, and easy to do, and worth trouble (should be replace about every 2 years).
