Ask for your receipt!

Most of us don't care about receipts and just trash them. If you're expensive stuff as part of business you take them religiously.

I was eating at a fast food restaurant the other day and I noticed that the clerk (also the owner) was not punching in the transaction so I asked for a receipt. After a few seconds of thinking, he punched in the transaction and gave me a receipt. I stopped eating at that fast food restaurant after that. I don't want to support someone.

These guys are stealing by not ringing in sales. All they do is pocket the money and avoid paying taxes or royalty on it.

Ask for your receipt! Even if you pay by credit card, ask for the itemized receipt! If it's a franchise, send the HQ an e-mail with the transaction date and time and tell them about the sale not being rung up. The franchise will fix remove them.
 
if you feel that badly about it why not report it to the CRA. They take tax evasion very seriously and I think tax evasion carries a serious penalty like a lengthy jail term I think. Don't know watched too much Al Capone movies lol.
 
Please they're just trying to save a few bux. If they want to do that that's their problem.
 
If the owner want's to palm the money, he'd better not charge me HST.

I agree, a lot of people doesn't understand that our education system, health care, road, public worker, waste management, 200 000 000 000$ of debt etc. Doesn't get paid by itself.
 
It does bother me. It also bothers me that we have national debt. These small businesses already get a lot of tax breaks that most people don't and they still try to scam the system. Greed has no bounds.

yes, its the small businesses not punching in your meal that has caused all this national debt...
Last time I checked it wasn't Tony's Pizzia that caused this mess
 
I didn't cause it either. Can I cheat on my taxes knowing that you are gonna cover me?

you can do whatever you want...
you think not a single soul cheats on their taxes? If you know this why are you wasting your time online... GO!!! GO!!!! save the world economy by soucing out all the cheaters on their taxes, cause that's what's causing this

Dude, it's not about one or two meals, it's about the principle. You work hard, you pay your taxes and don't get many breaks from the government, but then there are others who already get breaks and still go on to steal more. I got tired of "oh it's just one small thing" or " everyone does it"

Afterwards we wonder how it all goes wrong. It start with the small things. If you see something wrong and don't try to prevent it (if you are capable of doing so) you are just as guilty as the person committing the crime. Why let crooks get away with stealing?

How would you like it if the gas station owner reprogrammed his pumps to give you .10 litre of gas less than you normally would get. People are now more corrupt than ever and it's because we let them get away with these small things.
 
I think it would be a lot more profitable for the tax coffers to go after the big cheats and to close loopholes that allow big businesses to open broom closet "head offices" in the Bahamas. The little guy won't accept getting shot for spitting on the street if the big guy can get away with murder.

I know people cheat on taxes. I dragged a bunch of them in front of a court already, and the penalties were massive. Your point ?

That's your job not mine. Just cuz ppl don't punch in an order don't mean they are crooks.

Actually they are. That is the definition of stealing. If an employee of that restaurant wasn't punching in orders and taking the money the owner would call it theft and report him to the police for stealing. The owner is just stealing from the business, increasing his expenses on paper to pay less taxes. He is directly stealing from the government and the franchise as they would've had to pay royalty and taxes.

If the burger costs $5 and you pay $5.65 that $0.65 is what you paid for taxes not for the owner to pocket.
