its not that the chineses arent good at manufacturing. the chinese are actually very good, however they make everything to specifications. a company in the US like walmart will go to chinese manufacturing and say make us xxxx and make it as cheaply as you can to maximize our profits, so they do and its garbage, they use cheap materials and so on. the chinese can also make state of the art technology items if the buyer is willing to pay for it and that is what they want.

we just have the impression the chinese are bad at manufacturing because we see way more of the garbage that the US companies request to be made.

Then why do they keep dumping all their cheap manufacturing crap on our doorsteps? Keep it for the local people..

Several reasons...

1) Business interests across the "developed" world saw the opportunities to save on labor by having stuff manufactured in China and that gave them additional savings as more people were competing for fewer jobs at home, so they could keep the salaries low. Exporting services to India only aggravated the issue

2) People liked the cheap prices and disposability of Chinese goods. Lower salaries (adjusted for inflation) due to point #1, along with a lack of foresight and the regular "free market" propaganda practically guaranteed it

3) A lot of the stuff being made in Asia cannot be made anywhere else any more. We completely exported some of our industries. Even the Japanese are moving their production to China.

We fail to realise how much other things are made in china. From our underwear to our ipods.

We only notice the bad and not the good. My PC is made in china and its running fine

If they wanted to produce it in North America, they couldn't. They've lost the manufacturing capabilities. That's how far it got.
