You're not being racist you just have issues with some other peoples existence. Mennonite isn't even a race of people, it's a church group.

some brands of them don't believe in banks and insurance etc

It's a co-operative effort. The entire posse will be there. If they see a machine they like during viewing, they surround it and any English that want to get a close look at it have to fight their way to it, and they're pretty militant/ignorant about preventing it. And hygiene before the auction is frowned upon (another tactic). If you do manage to get an up close look at the machine, it's been a rather funky experience for you.
