Aprillia in rough waters

Stereotype and insult people much?

I know a number of people that grew up in the country that aren't gearheads. And I know lots of people that grew up in cities that aren't wussy.

Yes I do and no you dont...now go on and grow an ironic moustache while wearing a plaid shirt

The average price of a home in the GTA is $520,118 (I just Googled it), let's work with that number.
That seems low unless you're including condos?

Agreed, but you made it sound as if anyone with a downpayment for a house is rolling in dough, which is not always the case. A lot a families struggle and save very hard for their first home.

Also the average price of $856+k you quoted for a detached home in the 416 does not reflect the reality of what people buy as their first homes.

Who said anything about first homes? I'm talking prices in general.

That's great for you and I'm glad that worked out.

you NEED dual incomes to think about buying your own place, not to mention, if you want cheaper, you drive farther, so it's a balancing act.

On the drive further, IMHO, I think some folks go with 1hr commutes thinking the 100k they save on a house is better than burning through a car every 4-5yrs at 25k each and all that gas + hrs of there life. But 100k is a lot of money all at once.

+1 on the DUAL income to really get the home you want at a price you can afford, then DON"T SCREW IT UP. The only thing that would suck harder than making all the payments alone would be handing over 50% of the appreciated value of said house.

What do you expect anyone to do? The primary killer is insurance and no one wants to reduce insurance company profits. The unfortunate reality is that there is no incentive for anyone to promote increased motor vehicle use by young people, except manufacturers. And they don't want to bother because most young people can't afford to buy new vehicles anyway so there is no win for them either.

Yup, and the fact that young people cannot afford to buy new vehicles is a whole different problem with direct ties to the job market, wages, inflation, real estate, etc...

If you're talking prices in general, then you have to consider the average, not just detached homes in 416. The reality of home ownership includes condos and semis these days. I'm sure a large number of members here who own homes do not live in the 416 because they can't afford it.

Since this discussion (as much as it got off track!) is about young people's ability to afford what we consider a benchmark (home ownership), as well as having the disposable income to own and insure a vehicle, then yes, we're talking about first homes.

Yup. I grew up in Scarborough but live in Oshawa because I can't afford to live in Toronto. I spend 2 hours a day commuting. It's not completely bad because it would still be that long on the TTC anyway if I still lived in Scarborough. However, the monthly fare from my station is $303 x 12 is $3,636. If I stayed where I am 10 years at that price, I have spent $36,360 just commuting into and out of the city over 10 years.

It just blows my mind that houses in the outer GTA are now approaching the prices of houses in TO. Why would anyone with a brain pay TO prices just to have a bigger back yard so that they can pay an extra 40k a decade commuting. Ridiculous.

You take transit from Oshawa? That must suck.

I live in Toronto and work at Pearson. I spend about 1.5 hrs commuting by car (30 min to work in the morning, 1 hr home in the afternoon). When I lived outside Guelph it was actually about the same (45 min each way, maybe a little more in the afternoon) because the traffic is actually faster going out of the city, which makes no sense since that's what most people are doing. Although I've noticed now when I do go that way it's gotten much worse in that direction ever since the new outlet mall opened in Milton.

I don't even take the 401 home in the afternoon any more since it's usually backed up to the airport and moving about 5 kph before I even get out of work.

Wow, this thread evolved. From Aprillia stopping production to commuting into the city from Oshawa. Guess it's only appropriate to buy an Aprillia, live in a house in Oshawa and commute into Toronto. Everyone wins...

No truer words have ever been spoken

back to Aprillia,
my drinking buddy just back from Italy (he's in the car business) explained last night, its not just europe thats suffering woe that is hurting Aprillia, the Australian continent ignores them and they dont do that well in the US. Its tough to be boutique.

I think to some the whole I can have a jap ss for way less money with very similar performance discourages purchasing. Perhaps aprillia could try to make a reasonably priced sport bike and also have their flagship model. :dontknow:

Legalize lane splitting! While you're at it legalize all self entitled behaviour on Ontario roads. Screw everybody!

The RSV4-R is about $14K with ABS, if I recall pricing. The Tuono is in that ballpark too or a little less.

I'd say that's competitive... and no Japanese bike matches it for electronics (or "character").

Why does two wheel have one rsv4 at $20,709 + tax and another at $14,936 + tax? Both abs. Both 1000cc

List price. But I've seen them lower. I bought my RSV4 Factory ABS lower. The Factory is definitely a boutique bike... but the R1 was priced at something like $16799 in Ottawa the last time I looked at one (I've heard that Yamaha pushed prices down due to market pressure, though).

I have considered getting an Aprillia Tuono, but the lack of a dealer network in Toronto discouraged me.

When BMW Toronto announced support of Piaggio products, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was a great anchor spot. But just as soon as they began support of it, they the just as quickly stopped.

Anyone here see Aprilia RS 125 for sale in GTA or Ontario? I'm looking for one. Its popular in Asia but not in Canada :(

The same is true for Ferrari and Lamborghini. The issue is that these factories were relying on sales of pricey toys to a large group of people avoiding taxes. With the financial crisis, Italy has clamped down on tax evaders, and this has dried up the market. This is also happening in other EU countries.

fyi - Most (if not all) exotic" cars made in Italy are sold out of country. This has been the case for a long time, far longer than the EU crisis. There is no comparison to be drawn between Lamborghini/Ferrari and Aprilla IMO. Apples to Oranges.
