aprilia rsv4

Hey guys.. i always ridden all jap bikes from 600 to 750, i wana step up, i always liked the ducs aprilia. So my eyes are glued to the rsv4 , see the pricing is very appealing... never own a literbike tho i have riden them... id like to have a bike u dont see around alot .. People are saying dont buy cause of parts etc. But i own so many bikes yes all jap but how often do bike breakdown... all reviews say this bike rsv is very good with minor oil leak n such so ... so what do u think

Early RSV4's had all of their engines replaced 'cause they were destroying themselves internally. Once that was sorted out, the new engines are supposedly rock solid.
Love the sound of the bike for sure.
Did a search on various RSV4 forums, and there doesn't seem to be alot of negativity or complaining about repairs being necessary.

Aprilia parts supply a few years ago was horrendous (cancelled an order after 4 months, it still had no expected delivery date). Supposedly they have their #### in order now. George at Corsa Mecchanica is a good guy, talk to him, he has always been straight up with me.

I haven't had any issues with my Tuono and parts are cheaper than Honda parts. :) Corsa has two awesome bikes for a good price right now, the Factory demo machine that he tried to sell me for $16K (almost did it but I have too much wrapped up in my GSXR) which is wearing my friend Shawn's RSV4-R pipe instead of the one that got scratched up at the motorcycle show, and a Tuono Factory which I didn't ask the price of, but is also an awesome bike.

Honestly if I had the cash and I didn't have two bikes I already love and need to get more value out of, I'd have had that Factory sitting in my garage a couple months ago when we picked up Shawn's bike. And BTW it sounds like the wrath of the gods with a Graves carbon pipe on it.

Awesome bikes. To quote Brett McCormick (2011 Canadian Superbike winner): "Someone, please get me an Aprilia!"

Wonder how that went down with his new boss, who put him on an 1199 Ducati...

Not that he has a choice. He must be happy to be signed, regardless whether it's a Duc or Aprilia.

I love the RSV4. I'd grab a new one in a heart beat if I had the extra cash (saving for a wedding) and if I knew the gf wouldn't cut my balls off.

Have the rsv4 Factory - love it. Non-ARPC and don't feel you need the electronics for the road - track yes. George at Corsa has been great to me and at the price your stating thats a great buy. Nothing beats v4 sound or feel!

I'd take the older RSV over the new one. I know it's not comparable in performance but it's a twin and its much cheaper. Still very rare and the physical proportions are for an adult not a 5' kid like the RSV4 :)

I feel the Tuono is the better of the V60 twins, personally. But if you haven't tried the RSV4 yet, you really can't compare... it feels so different from a Japanese bike of any measure and is so much more "alive" than most bikes you could mention, it almost doesn't feel like the same thing. When you ride a RSV4, you're riding a machine - which feels carved out of steel - that constantly lets you know what it's doing and that it is, indeed, meant for going as fast as you have the guts to take it. Hard to explain, but it really does feel more like a race bike than my race bikes do. And it is *not* cramped for a 6'+ rider. It is physically small, however.

The new Tuono really has me gobsmacked. I just love my V60 too much to sell/trade it right yet... I'm thinking that another year is needed in my stable. BTW, i've heard that most of the incoming Tuono V4Rs into Canada are pre-sold and they will all arrive with the APRC package, no standard bike available. All speculation but I heard it from two dealers...

BTW, I do have one complaint about the RSV4, which is that it is hot. Really hot. However it's a relatively minor complaint, and frankly I found the 2010 R1 to be much hotter and in a less welcome place.

i did a search nothing but good stuff ... price is reasonable too, only two dealers in ontario...one is in vaughan close to me

Corsa Meccanicca and George have been good to me and parts supply is pretty smooth now; I order something, I get it on a regular weekly or bi-weekly stock order if it isn't in stock just like every other major motorcycle dealer.

If you have your heart set on an RSV4, i don't think you'll be disappointed. He's got a very reasonable price on a non-factory unit rite now.
If you're not dead set on an RSV4, I have an RSV2 we can talk about.

Cheers.

I have a 2010 RSV4R. 9000km so far and only two issues - a recall for the fuel evap canister, and a re-load of the map for some fueling issues that were needed to increase the fuel mileage. The re-map is only a 10 minute job. Its been rock solid for me.
Also I found some parts are cheap, like the oil filter, cheaper than my friends GSXR 1000, but the oil recommended to run in it is very expensive. AGIP 15-50 - $17 a liter. Also, frame sliders are very expensive -$300 for the Aprilia ones, the next cheapest are the graves at $180 USD.
One other thing to note, if you are looking to put a pipe on it, it can get complicated with the mapping issues and bit pricer than what I was used to. I am going through the process now.
I love the bike. The bike has lots of character. But as Shaman states, it is a hot bike to ride in the city. It does not like stop and go traffic. As for size, the bike appears small, but is actually fairly similar to other bikes in its class. I have ridden them all extensively.
Good luck with your decision, all the liter bikes now are pretty bad *** so you can't go wrong with any.

I think the Tuono looks great and I'd love to have one... but I still love my v60 Tuono. And yes your pricing is right, they're about $15.5K MSRP complete with teh APRC package. Fastest, quickest, best handling and most advanced naked bike ever made. And V4, which makes it the coolest.

The engine desing on these bikes is unreal! You can change the transmission very quickly and change the mapping really fast via usb on laptop! Amazing machines but dam pricey

I'm going to say none... but can't speak for him. They're a cassette style transmission like some other (usually homolgated) race replica designs, so you can slide the gears in and out simply... big advantage in professional racing but not in many other situations. I don't care much about it to be honest but Aprilia *really* think out the maintenance and functionality of their bikes.

While the bikes are a bit more costly than some of the big four brands, the overall quality of paint, frame, design and build quality tend to be considerably better. Brembo brakes & master, Pirelli tires, stainless lines, forged wheels, Sachs suspension (or Ohlins), deep and high quality paint... you do get something for your money. And that motor is worth a sizable investment just for its character - honestly, you have to experience it to understand.

Remember, at least one American magazine and a pile of European magazines have made the RSV4 their bike of the year for two years running and that's with machines like the new S1000RR and ZX-10R kicking around with traction control, higher peak power output and ABS brakes.
