apparently a chevy cobolt can hit 222km/h

The punishment would've been less severe if he ran someone over going 50km/h.

Ya really, you can kill a motorcyclist during a left turn for only 150$.

No...sorry..there's not...end it now... :-p

LOL!

I actually got insurance quotes for a Mustang, and it's cheaper on insurance and only slightly worse on gas consumption... I was like, really?! How does that work

Haha! Insurance is a funny thing..it's all stats..how many crashes..how much to fix..Honda Civics are ridiculously expensive..Subaru Outbacks are ridiculously cheap considering how much they cost!!

Boosted Cobalt. Not surprising at all. The fact that he had no governer also means it's either chipped or he has a tune installed!
So 225, no problem!!! :agave:

Last hear I participated in a ASE track day event at Mosport GP track with my Mazdaspeed3. I would reach speeds of 225 km/h on the back stretch, and this black Cobalt SS turbo would walk away from me (the owner said it was stock). They are one fast car (and do seem to handle well too).

i wonder what age you have to be before cops pull you over and go "there is something wrong here, you are too old to go this fast!"...i'm thinking once i hit 80 i can speed and nothing happens...i could boost a car, no license, no insurance, nothing, be 80, do 300km/hr, not prosecuted...then again, what will vehicles be like in 50-60 years...what i think is fast will be slow for the gran kids...

The speedo tops out at 220. Speed was measured with radar, car was going slightly downhill after an easy curve. Not saying that speed was maintained, that was top speed though

Not my car so I'm not going to start a pissing match though.
Really, so i guess my 170hp stock n/a impreza can go faster BUUUUTT my speed governor is lower.

From what ive been reading, the Lancer's speed governor/limiter is at around 140 mph (about 225kph)

So yes its possible... how long it would take to GET to that speed is another story.

I was able to get up to 210 kph in a 160hp Acura RSX (NOT type-s) in a non-public road SAFE ENVIRONMENT and couldve gone further... so i figure the lancer can do as much.

As for the cobalt, its impressive. Not in a good way of course

Lawrence WILCOX, age 70 of Chilliwack, British Columbia was travelling at a speed of 153 km/hour operating a Toyota Camry

Mr Wilcox, welcome to wonderful Ontario!

4 lousy km/h over the threshold, and the cop cant cut the guy a break? They drop speeds all the time for speeding. Certainly he would have got a nice lesson with a 49 over ticket.

Why screw over a 70 year old, impound his car (rental or otherwise) and leave him stranded?

Perhaps it just me, but I dont get it.

He probably had a few choice words for the cop which led to him getting the full charge.

I was thinking the same thing...

In the US I've been hearing in many states it's governed at 115mph. I know for a fact the Evo X isn't governed. And if it is, then it's way too high :D I believe it was stock too, but people can armchair mechanic all they want. Nobody gives the 2.0 motor enough credit. I've yet to meet an STi I can't spank. And they have a 2.5.

As far as the old guy, I feel for him. I got pulled over and charged with 49 over, the cop made it clear that I was 1km away from being arrested and my **** impounded.
