Anyone running their air\oil cooled bikes with these temps?

A few of us with older UJM's hit the road to London yesterday in the morning, returning mid afternoon.

We regretted the trip on our return.... whew
The RE650 has a temp warning - if you get too hot it'll shut the motor down until it cools.
Hasn't happened - yet.

No issues with my air cooled (with oil cooling) bike. Mind you I tend to avoid congested area's regardless of the temperature.
My thought is you should not have that much to worry about. What is considered "HOT" here is normal in many places around the world.
And many of those places depend on motorcycles but offer little in the way of regular service etc.

I had a gixxer squid complain to me about how his ride was overheating in stop and go traffic.
He said the temp gauge was going up to the red and the fan was coming on, blowing hot air all over him.
I asked - is it p*ssing coolant on the ground (no), does the temp gauge drop (yes), then it isn't overheating ?
He didn't believe me.

I have heard this complaint from people as well. They think their bike being liquid cooled will act just like their (or their moms) car. This as most of know is not always the case. On liquid cooled bikes I have owed the cooling came from the air passing through the radiator the system did not have enough volume to cool the bike while at a stand still (for very long) and then the fans would come on to help protect the engine, cooling system etc.

I wouldn't head out in stop an go traffic in the heat but as long as you keep moving, I have never had a bike with serious temp issues. Me on the other hand. Blech. It's not even hot here and I suspect the humidity has very little effect on the bike and a big effect on me.

My bikes can handle the hot temperatures, i cant.
I can understand that. I'm a little "plump" thanks to 2020 and chips. So this hot humid weather gives me swamp butt pretty fast..

Maybe I’m getting too old and comfortable…..but I won’t ride when it’s too cold…or too hot. Not touching the 401 in these temps.

you guys have to manage the heat, here's what I do:

1. Stay hydrated, if you wait till you're hot and thirsty, its already too late, you want to start drinking early, and often, long before you think you need it.

2. Keep moving

3. Get the right gear, I recently learned adventure gear is code for 'comfy', so I bought some klim and there are lots of vents on the jacket, its all white, or close to it, so it reflects all the sunlight, instead of absorbing it and getting hot

I also have some gatorade stashed with me, or some of this stuff:

Its magical, I used to drink it after long runs and find its equally good during or after a long ride on a hot day.

Snacks help too, I came back from my ride yesterday and to even my astonishment, spend the rest of the day devouring an ungodly amount of food. Surprised at how many calories you can burn on a hot day riding around

On long rides I always wear a camelbak.

One ridiculous day I had sweat dripping out of my pants so I stopped at Royal in Guelph and bought a full set of mesh gear. Much better temperature wise. Not vastly worse in terms of protection.

my air cooled ducati scrambler (L twin so i'm basically sitting right on top of a cylinder) gets SUPER hot to the point where my left leg feels like its gonna burn if im stuck in stop and go traffic in this type of weather. I basically have to resort to shutting off my bike at stop lights if need be.

my other problem is my mesh jacket and coolmax-lined motorcycle pants are black haha. i do have a reflective vest i wear over the jacket sometimes but i need better summer gear.

I used to wear backpacks, but found the extra weight annoying and tiring, so I got cortech saddlebags, they seem to work good, and dont require any brackets of any sort, they hang a bit lower than id like, but so far so good

I normally use a MULE. With the waist strap done up I don't really notice it (other than screwing up rear ventilation a bit). 4L in at the beginning of the day (with a bunch of ice if possible) and that is normally enough to make it home. A few gatorades in a bag on bike to drink at gas stops if it is really hot.

My bike loves these temps, for some reason it runs smoother. I don't do so well in the humdity, but I try to avoid city riding and go country where I can keep moving more. (y)

It felt like my legs were going to burn off yesterday... I was so happy with the random rain

Edit
It is not as bad as The traffic from toronto to KW with the bike 🥶🥵. I wish lane splitting was allowed

i definitely wouldn't trust lane splitting here, but there should at least be lane filtering. i'm always jealous when i try to follow the law but then see riders zip past me in between lanes at lights haha.

there was supposed to be a pilot project that allowed motorcyclists to do lane filtering in certain areas of toronto, but as per typical toronto bureaucracy (and roads), it's moving REAL slow.

(looks like it hasnt been looked at it again in years lol. also doesnt help with the super high amount of fallen riders every season)
