The RE650 has a temp warning - if you get too hot it'll shut the motor down until it cools.A few of us with older UJM's hit the road to London yesterday in the morning, returning mid afternoon.

I have heard this complaint from people as well. They think their bike being liquid cooled will act just like their (or their moms) car. This as most of know is not always the case. On liquid cooled bikes I have owed the cooling came from the air passing through the radiator the system did not have enough volume to cool the bike while at a stand still (for very long) and then the fans would come on to help protect the engine, cooling system etc.I had a gixxer squid complain to me about how his ride was overheating in stop and go traffic.
He said the temp gauge was going up to the red and the fan was coming on, blowing hot air all over him.
I asked - is it p*ssing coolant on the ground (no), does the temp gauge drop (yes), then it isn't overheating ?
He didn't believe me.
I can understand that. I'm a little "plump" thanks to 2020 and chips. So this hot humid weather gives me swamp butt pretty fast..My bikes can handle the hot temperatures, i cant.
On long rides I always wear a camelbak.you guys have to manage the heat, here's what I do:
1. Stay hydrated, if you wait till you're hot and thirsty, its already too late, you want to start drinking early, and often, long before you think you need it.
2. Keep moving
3. Get the right gear, I recently learned adventure gear is code for 'comfy', so I bought some klim and there are lots of vents on the jacket, its all white, or close to it, so it reflects all the sunlight, instead of absorbing it and getting hot
I also have some gatorade stashed with me, or some of this stuff:
Its magical, I used to drink it after long runs and find its equally good during or after a long ride on a hot day.
Snacks help too, I came back from my ride yesterday and to even my astonishment, spend the rest of the day devouring an ungodly amount of food. Surprised at how many calories you can burn on a hot day riding around
I used to wear backpacks, but found the extra weight annoying and tiring, so I got cortech saddlebags, they seem to work good, and dont require any brackets of any sort, they hang a bit lower than id like, but so far so goodOn long rides I always wear a camelbak.
I normally use a MULE. With the waist strap done up I don't really notice it (other than screwing up rear ventilation a bit). 4L in at the beginning of the day (with a bunch of ice if possible) and that is normally enough to make it home. A few gatorades in a bag on bike to drink at gas stops if it is really hot.I used to wear backpacks, but found the extra weight annoying and tiring, so I got cortech saddlebags, they seem to work good, and dont require any brackets of any sort, they hang a bit lower than id like, but so far so good
It felt like my legs were going to burn off yesterday... I was so happy with the random rain
Edit
It is not as bad as The traffic from toronto to KW with the bike. I wish lane splitting was allowed
