Share your feedback. I know they are beginner bikes but they look good (sort of important to me). I wana put an undertail exhaust like this guy: http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/hyosung/359794-undertail-exhaust-2.html

Second hand information:
Friend had a Hyosung 250, he said it did have more gimmicks than the kawi for the price (fuel injection, I think ABS?, etc.) but it was noticeably heavier, especially up top. It was more cumbersome for a new rider (female) to maneuver it at slow speeds.
It'll be harder to find parts and mods for it for sure though, so if you're looking to mod it, most likely you'll be spending some good cash. From what I remember the fairings and all make it look almost as large as a 600. Not sure how they have been improving the seating and handling over the last few years.

Cool looking bikes. Big bike look, small bike insurance. Durability isn't on par with the competition, depreciation is brutal. Unless you are stuck on it, buy a Ninja or CBR and save yourself the trouble (and money). A cheap bike that lasts a year costs a lot more than a bike that costs 30% more but lasts for decades.

that's what I like: Big bike look with small bike insurance. They are so cheap too lol. The link I posted has the black Hyosung that has converted undertail exhaust. Looks sexy imo. Do you guys know if an exhaust shop can do that on a CBR 250R? or even an underbelly exhaust would be nice. I just hate the look of the long exhaust pipes. Doesnt look clean to me. Which is why I want a CBR600RR but the power scares me (noob with only 2 days of course riding exp)

Had one for my first bike and the size/weight is definitely closer to a full size 600 than a 250, which for me was a plus. I had several people stop me to say it was a great looking bike. Put about 6k kms on it in my first year, bought it for $2,500 second hand at the end of the prior season and sold it second hand for $2,500 at the start of the season after my "rookie year". If you buy used, the depreciation's really not bad at all.
During that year the only significant maintenance issue I had was a fuel petcock that blew, but that was because I overfilled the tank and left it in the hot sun immediately afterwards despite the manual cautioning not to do that. My own dumb fault. Does it have a bit less refined fit and finish close up than one of the big brands? Yes. But this is your learner bike, you're going to beat it up anyway and likely sell it within a year or two.
I was happy with mine, but it all depends on what you're looking for.

i am one of the guys who had it and the engine went kaput. had a 2 year warranty but it happened just a few months after the warranty expired. so that wasn't helpful at all.
i still liked it based solely on the fact that it was a big looking and feeling bike with 250cc engine. I didn't want to start off with bigger engine size bikes and frankly could not afford the insurance as well. parts availability is not as good as other makes. not as reliable as other makes. but still had enough oomph factor for a 250 bike. all in all i don't regret getting that bike. i did sit on the ninja 250 before i purchased the Hyo. I didnt fit on the Ninja at all. Those were my only two choices at that point.
my advice, if u are fit on the Ninja 250 or the CBR 250, get those over the Hyo 250.

I Have a 06 Hyo, I put over 16000 km on it last season and had to only change the petcock (did the same thing with filling it up) Parts are not to bad but its the shipping and waiting that kill me. Buying from the two local dealers is my last resort if I have to. A lot of parts are interchangeable with other brands and models of bikes. This season I just did the sprockets and chain (the sprocket nut did strip which was caused by being put on incorrectly by mechanic) and that's it so far.
Like mentioned its a good bike for your first bike especially being its a full sized bike which will help you learn control and maneuverability with your next upgrade in the future. I didn't get a Kawi or other 250 because I found them to be to small and uncomfortable (plus I was looking more for a naked style bike) and getting a 600 or higher at the time was way to much in insurance cost for me to justify. Now that my record is clean again I am thinking of upgrading to a 600 or higher. This Bike has been great, I use it for my daily commute to work (58 km's one way) I have had no major problems with it, like any other machine just take care of it on a regular basis and everything should run fine.
Now with that being said would I upgrade to the Hyo 650? No. I would get a bike that I know is backed by quality and that can have parts that are easily sourced and readily available, and can meet my demands for longer distance touring. One that I intend to keep for many years. My 250 is my starter/get back into riding bike not my long term bike. Get whatever you like, don't buy a bike to simply impress the folks here on GTAM, get a bike that makes you feel happy when your riding it.

I have a 2009 hyosung gt250r and love it. Im looking for riders to ride with in pickering or scarborough area. PM me if anyone interested.
If you look at similar posts online where people are asking about 250 kawi's or Honda's, the only "negative" has to do with the power output of a 250 engine. You won't see complaints regarding reliability, parts availability, engines dying etc...

the ninja 300 may be a good option then. i think they are built off the ninja 650 platform...they look very similar.
