Anyone out there have the new Ninja 1000?

Or the semi-new Z1000, I guess. What's it like? Happy with it so far?

I want to hear about it as well, when I upgrade I plan to possibly get that instead of a 600 SS.

Looks good, comfortable as hell, not a bad review anywhere. I don't own one but I've been on one and checking them out as well.

my buddys got one, he LOVES it, even sold his 1000 rr. he planed on keeping both bikes, however the honda just sits.
it does everything so well , handles like a ss and has great mid range power. and he can ride it for hours and hours.

Is this supposed to be something between Z1000 and ZX10R?

not really in between, just a Z1000 with full fairings and slightly different handlebars. I'm 21 right now so I have to look at how insurance will be compared to a 600 SS, if its less or within a few hundred bucks I will definitely go with this badboy in a couple years once I can get a used one at a decent price.

Its essentially an upsized a 250r...in the sense that its sporty without being too sporty and a ball buster for everyday use.

If I was you I would get the Z1000, it just looks like a badass ride, without the fairings and all. Must be a comfortable ride as well.

I have a Z750 (almost identical to the Z1000), and its a great bike.
Its comfy for the long rides with its upright seating position. Fast enought to keep up with the supersports on the street without having to pay the insurance premium. The engine has a bit of vibrations, but it think thats specific to the 750.

Why they don't offer ABS (at least as an option) on the Ninja 1000, when they do on the same model overseas is beyond my comprehension.

I wouldn't consider this model strictly based on that fact.

.

Ok my Buddy just bought a 2011 Z1000.

All I can say is: WOW.

I have an sv1000s, and the z1000 is just so smooth in comparison.

Riding position is awesome, not as upright as say an FZ1, but not fatigueing on your back at all.

My SV1000S has lots of torque, and the z1000 can keep up with no problem whatsoever.

The z1000 has shorter gearing than my SV though. It is truly a hooligan bike

Obviously handling is amazing. I even converted my clip ons to superbars after feeling how manoeverable the z1000 was.

One bad thing, buddy bought spools with sliders, and the big alien looking exhaust kept hitting the spools and have now snapped off his tabs...

Suspension is a weakpoint on this bike, if there were any weakpoints to begin with. This is noticable to an advanced rider any way, not someone commuting etc.

the engine is sublime. Very good power delivery with the big inline 4 kick past 7k rpm.

My buddy was either gonna get the z1000 or the new zx6r.

He thanks god everyday that he got the z1000. He loves it sooooo much!!!

In what way?

Has anybody seen any pictures out there of what the bike looks like if it has the hard bags optioned, but removed from the bike? In other words what does the mounting rack look like.

Right, I've seen/heard about this, but I was curious about wearelopey's personal experience with the rear shock. BTW Ohlins does make a replacement shock now.

To be honest the stock suspension doesn't seem all that bad. Its a little softly sprung for my liking but that was before it was set up for my buddy.

Originally I got the idea its suspension was a weak point from the video above.

My buddy took it into Z1 to get set up and they said the suspension seemed good.

Mind you I haven't done any hard riding on it, unless your one seriously fast rider, I doubt you'll be complaining

People swap out the rear shocks routinely on the Z1000, Z750, Z750S. I have a Z750S which has the Z1000 motor but sleeved down. I have a Kawasaki 636 shock waiting to be bolted in, it's a straight replacement apparently and gives me the advantage of compression and damping adjustment with preload too whereas I think the OEM rear shock just had preload. Still working out what to do with the forks but it seems the forks on the stock bikes have soft sprung springs that benefit from being swapped out.

I haven't ridden the Z1000 but I love the engine on my bike. The Ninja 1000 looks to be a touring variant and I read a good write up on it recently.

Yeah I have the same bike as well, didn't know the rear shock was a straight swap though. The engine is fantastic though, I personally don't think I need any more power than what it has.

Be careful with the year of the 636 shock that you get for the swap. Some require a bit of grinding. My 2006 Z750S will take an 05/06 636 shock as a bolt in with no adjustment. If you're interested in doing this PM me and I'll give you the details of a guy in Florida who will sell you a part without ripping you off in shipping. My shock cost me about $60ish delivered I think.

Edit: For all shock replacements on this bike you need to turn the rectifier box round, takes 10 mins.
