Anyone knowticed the highway maintenance crews are trying to kill us?

Posted speed limits are there for a reason.

We all enjoy riding hard from time to time, but if the ramp's got a 60kph speed limit and you're taking it at 120kph or whatever, and continuing to hit these ramps/areas where you now KNOW there are patches of construction or rough spots, the only one to blame if and when something happens, is yourself. Like the others said, construction happens all the time during summer. Our roads are crap, we all know that, hence most of us use our heads and ride accordingly.

Ride safe, ditch the "ride hard or don't ride at all" attitude, and maybe you'll live longer. Nobody here is impressed by your speeding habit, they'll be even less impressed if you wind up in the Fallen Riders forum.

I don't recall if it's signed or not but the only grading I've ridden over recently is a short stretch of 401 near Yonge (I'm assuming "grading" is the corduroy-like semi-paved surface?). It's a fairly straight length of road but I would be annoyed if I ran into something like that unexpectedly in a corner... even if I were doing the speed limit.

Thankyou. This is exactally what im talking about..

Im not trying to impress you by saying I speed. Again, pull your head out of your a** and look at what im talking about instead of picking out the one portion of the conversation YOU find fault in. I cant believe the amount of people on this site who think there **** dont stink and act like this thread was talking about speeds one would see when running from the cops. Jeez, Im talking about poor placement of construction where our typical road repairs that should only take a week take years.

**** people. read the issue... It dosent matter if you come around the corner at 10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90, or 100. The issue is still vaild. Stop scrapping me on the possablilty that I could be speeding. Get off your high horse and stop your fearmongering, look at what im saying, and have an intelligent conversation about the issue. Stop picking out the points which are non issues in the post.

no thats not correct. but yes, I probably spell worse than a 2nd grader... Besides the point.

The point is people take you way less seriously when you make as many spelling mistakes as you do. Turn on spell check within your browser or type it in another program, spell check it and then post it. I gave up reading some of your posts - way too painful trying to decipher what you meant.

Take it easy on Kyle, everyone. He's obviously new to the interwebz.

BTW, Kyle, no, I don't agree with you - I don't think road crews are trying to kill us. And in all my years of riding in Toronto and the GTA, and in the over 100,000 kms I have under my belt riding all over North America, I gotta say that I don't think this is a terribly upsetting issue. In the summer, road crews do roadwork, and it leaves a mess on the roads. That's just what it is. The rest of us, we just deal with it.

Classic deflection of responsibility...

You almost got killed because you were going too fast, but you blame it on a lack of roadwork signs.

So you're saying if you came around the ramp at the posted signage as opposed to double what it says that it wouldn't be any safer for you and more importantly the road crew doing work? Hell yeah i speed, but not around blind corners. If you're getting caught off guard it's because you're going too fast, theres really no other explanation.

if u crash or die from going too fast there aint noone else to blame, period

What happens when you come around the corner and find a truck stopped in the middle of the lane? You can blame the truck but if you're overriding your ability to stop or evade you're in for some very dangerous times. If you want to take blind corners at a high rate of speed, I'd suggest at least scouting them first.

I do agree with your point that construction should be adequately signed to give fair warning. But that's a different issue from rounding a blind corner and being suprised, to me.

If you're bothered that much with the ground down asphalt, go ride a dirt bike for a while, then it won't bother you nearly as much... You're obviously not as skilled a rider as you think.
I ride street and track. Very, very different ways of riding. I have fun on the street... To a point. If I need to cross the yellow line for a corner, I'm goin too fast. If I know I couldn't avoid gravel/animal/e-bikes in the next blind corner, I slow down. Why? It's MY responsibility to get MY *** home safe.
You would think your dads mistakes would teach you a lesson, but Darwin obviously didn't do a good enough job here.

Slow 'er down buds, enjoy the ride, and give the girls a chance to check out your sweet ride.

Dude, do you expect yellow speed warning signs on the DVP that say max corner speed 180KM/h?... just in case you want to take one a bit too hot

Kyle in layman's terms, posting hey look out for "insert bad road condition" @"insert location" is one thing. deferring the blame on roadwork crews i a completely different issue. regardless of what is ideal or "right, those of us who chose to ride are solely responsible for getting our ***** home alive. if you wanna ride hard on the street, as others have said the least you can do is scout the road first at a safe pace and then ride it hard. look for road conditions and popo.

ps. just because you ride somthing often, doesn't mean you can go in blind and be safe, thats my 2cents.

*EDIT* just to be clear, you're an adult do as you please, just don't complain about and blame potential consequences for risks you choose to take, on other people. road workers maintain the roads we all enjoy for leisure, and use for work and transportation.

oh pull your heads out your a**everyone goes hot in corners. dont act all high and mighty because people are saying there comming into corners "hot" and thats the problem...

i regularly go hot into corners... but i dont whine and cry about the things i dont see when doing it.

grow up... if you take the risk you may pay the price... its like people who speed and then curse police society and everyone in between when they get a ticket for it...

follow the speed limits and you'll be fine. ride faster you'll have fun. if its too nerve wracking for you... take up knitting and watch sit-coms

While we're on this topic..what are you supposed to do when you hit the patches of construction? (like the one on 401 Westbound @ Yonge st). The bike seems like its floating all over the place.. and I gotta cross through it just about every day lol. I usually grip the tank with my knees, weight on the pegs, and give it some gas. First year riding and it caught me off guard first time I went through it.
