My house is 39 yrs old. I'll just assume that different companies have different ways of doing business and what they expect to make from each job....
Just find it odd for a company to come out for a repoint estimate and then refuse to offer it...

This happened to my Mom when Enbridge offered her a free furnace safety inspection on the system they installed in 2009. Enbridge didn't send HVAC tech to do the inspection, they sent a salesman. He convinced Mom a $42,000 replacement HVAC system replacement would reduce the risk of CO poisoning and pay for itself in increased efficiency.

Perhaps, but I don't scare easily. That being said Enbridge is the worst and I'll admit even I was duped by them when I needed a new AC unit.
Thankfully I never have to deal with them again.
