Anyone know a place that can fix a radiator leak?

Hey guys,

Looking for a shop that fixes radiators. Got a 1984 Honda Sabre V65 with a leak radiator (2 spots). Had the bike in at Rosy Toes and he said he doesn't fix radiators. Was calling around today from yellow pages and can't find a shop.

Anyone know a place that does this? Doesn't have to be bike specific I'm guessing...

Or a place that has salvage bike parts? Maybe I can buy a used rad somewhere? Although I probably doubt it as the bike is pretty rare...

There are tons of places that fix radiators for cars, or go to Canadian Tire and buy that aluminum powder that's made to plug radiator leaks, just pour it in and it will seal it.
 
Do NOT use that powder in your bike.

Give oshawa rad repair a call. They are just down the road from Durham College.

You should join v4musclebike forum if you're not already a member there (don't want to link/spam but you can google it). It's a forum specifically for Magna's, Sabre's and Vmax's. There are a few threads there about rads.

My v45 has a leak as well but i have yet to be able to determine where it's happening. They don't make the rads new anymore but used ones pop up on ebay and a few shops have them locally but they are expensive and usually not in very good shape. I called Ontario Salvage on Kingston road and they had one so i went there and it was in really rough shape, the grill fins were all pushed in and it was rusty and bent all out of shape, yet they wanted $200 for it! So i passed. The one already on my bike is in far better condition so i'm gonna just get it fixed as well.

Kijiji sometimes has 80's Magna's and Sabre's show up on there as parts bikes. Not sure how much you wanna spend but if you're fixing it up and want a good one there are often whole bikes on there for under a grand. The rads are interchangeable between the sabre/magna and the v45/v65's as far as i know.

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't think there are tons of shops around, called like 10 today and none wants to do it. If the powder was easy to use or a solution in my problem wouldn't Rosy Toes be able to do it? He said I need a special brass welder etc.

Any rad shops in the west end?

cross town rads can fix it or build you a whole new rad. close to dixie and 401.

also never use that crap you put in your rad to fix leaks. best advice i can give, never listen to pegassus.

I am located in Mississauga, and can most likely fix it, just have to see the damage before I can say for sure...Depending on the damage might be able to TIG weld it, or might have to braze it

That would be awesome man if you can take a look at it. I'm at erin mills and britannia. If you are free I can meet you somewhere or pop by with the bike.

PM me a picture or 2, or let me know if you want to pass by and show me...To fix it properly the rad will have to come off the bike, if its not already...

Ill snap a pic tomorrow, your PM box is full though...

Or if you are close I can pop by and show you. Taking it off the bike shouldn't be a problem (I think) lol...

PM box is now empty thanks for letting me know, and Im at Tomken and Eglington...
 
If you aren't able to fix it... I'm pretty sure Bent Bikes in Mississauga has a radiator off an 82 V45 Sabre still. I stripped one for parts and left John the rest of the bike a couple of months ago, radiator was still on the bike and in decent condition.
 
I'm going to post this as i herd it once and i have no clue how true it is but its funny and RAD related.

First of you can take to any of the places mentioned to get it fixed. But if you are in a pinch I have herd that putting egg into the rad will seal it temporarily. Anyone else ever hear this?

Yes - I've heard of it. But before the egg trick, (it's not temporary - it's permanent) I heard about 1/2 teaspoon of either pepper, or paprika (I've used both too many times to count - 100% success). I've seen pepper seal not only pin sized holes in rads (with no side effects like Barr's) and yrs ago my Dad's old Ford had a hole the size of my thumb in the water pump - half a teaspoon of pepper sealed it for the several yrs he kept the car.
It's a chemical reaction - as soon as the pepper hits the coolant, the hole is instantly repaired - no waiting time - less than a millisecond and it's fixed.
This is not a joke.
