Anyone know a kid who needs a better Christmas?

I've got a large screen tv I want to get rid of and am thinking of donating it (it works) if you know of a womans shelter in Toronto?

Someone get RevRandy a gift for christmas!!!!

i spend a lot of time at CAMH and there are 101 things you can do. If you want to join me I konw there are tons of people that use the facilities that we turn away due to volumn. I'm not sure starting a thread on GTAM is an effective way of finding 1 single person that is deserving.

there are literally 101 organizations that could provide you with details more effective than starting a thread. hell, a call to any hospital will give you good results. There are lots of children that spend christmas in a hospital that could use their favourite movie or their favourite action figure.

I'm currently working at the mississauga food bank and though I know you said you want to do something more direct, we're understaffed.
Go to Southlake and tell them you want to help.

I'm actually getting response on people off the grid who do need help so getting the word out anywhere is good. I know my limits and what I want to do. I can't even be a big brother because 24 years ago I got a DUI and assault charge when i was 18, so volunteering is something I can't do.Let me do what i want to do and you do what you want to do. Having said that if you do run across someone who needs direct help let me know

I dont know of anyone but thats a great on your part to share with others...there is a guy in Collingwood that gives out 250 pre made dinners to anyone that needs it and he delivers if ur not able to pick up.....he says he just feels the need as The Salvation Army does a great job but there is a stigma to have to fill out a forum to get your meal! Hats off to you STB!!

anyone know a kid or family who needs help during Christmas or just a kid who deserves a present but the parents can't get it for them. PM me. I would like to help.
Yes I have donated in other ways this year I just want to do something more direct so please don't tell me to donate to a toy drive or salvation army. Already done

Just wanted to say thanks so much to Sunnythebull for starting this thread and sticker for responding with what happened to his moms neighbour.

Yesterday I met the lady and her children and it was very humbling helping them in their time of need. Thanks zx600 for putting in with me, she was so grateful and very touched that we wanted to help out. It seems that her neighbours are helping out more than her own family and it is lifting her spirits for the holidays.

http://www.nellies.org/ found this one. You'd have to call though to see if they need it, cause there donate page says they dont accept "furnature". There is a link to a furnature bank on there too.

The Good Shepherd, would be good to. The provide housing for people that can't afford it.

How do you feel about helping kids in Kenya? My uncle volunteers with a charity that helps put kids from the slums through school (he lives in Nairobi and spends a lot of his own time and money helping out the school). They have funding setup for elementary school, but need $500/yr/kid for high school. 90% of the money makes it to the kids (way better than here). He said that the biggest expense out of the leftover 10% goes to a social worker to check up on the kids and help them out. The difference it makes in these kids lives is incredible.

PM me if anyone wants more info and I can send you their report from last year. I am not sure whether this gets you a charitable donation receipt or not, but I will take 90% of my donation being helpful over a receipt and a 50+% of my donation being wasted in Ontario.

It depends on the organization in Ontario... I volunteer for Global Medic and 100% goes to help as there are no staff just volunteers. I believe they are the only charity organazation in Canada that is 100% though.

Thanks to rafiki911,sticker. And zx600 for assisting on this you are good people. Isis i'm still waiting for the info on that girl you told me about. Merry Christmas to everyone

Merry Christmas Sonnythebull, and Merry Christmas to you other guys doing good work at this time of the year.

There are so many places, people and programs that can use a hand up. And they are all worthwhile causes. It gets harder for not for profits and charities to fund raise, everybody has the bucket out and we all get burnt out with non stop year round requests.

Its great to see people doing whatever they can , at any level. Good work people.

In terms of woman's shelters - WROAR http://www.wroar.com/ fundraises for TRCC/MWAR http://www.trccmwar.ca/ funding is always tight and needed at all times of the year.

If you aren't comfortable donating on line WROAR will be at the January Bike show for all those that would like to donate. Being a registered charity you can get a tax receipt for your donation.
