Anyone interested in a James Bay Highway tour to Radisson/James Bay week of August 5?

Keep me posted on this as I might go as far as Rouyn-Noranda and then do some riding in Northern Quebec....got new tires need some exercise :D
I'd be going via the Quebec route I noted which stays east of the Ontario border.

What is current leave date?

August 5

k thanks - you okay with a partial tag along and that Quebec route up?
That's the long weekend Monday so I'd for sure want to avoid 11.

I'm good with it.

No problem -- come for the ride.

We plan on meeting at the Husky on the 400 at 6:30am on Aug 5. We also intend to take Trout Lake Road out of North Bay and run through Quebec from there.

Cool - early start that I like
got a cross road for the Husky? Like the what exit thanks.

Trout Lake is nice if traffic not too bad and should be fully paved now and the Quebec Highway with one gravel stretch should be done as well. It was only a short detour anyway.

My range is about 200k on the slab so I will fill up for sure - anyone else range challenged???
I can get 300k running at 90-100 if no head wind but the Burgman pushes a lot of air....which is nice in the rain or bugs.

Last tank was 215 kms before the last bar on gauge, took 16.62 litres on a 22 litre tank, Shell Vpower. A bit faster than your speed above, but the frost heaves may keep that down a bit.
Thinking of carrying 20 litres extra...possibly a military fuel bladder kinda thing to keep the weight low on the back. Maybe only ten...still McGyverring it out.....

I'm not going on the JBR - just tagging along to Rouyn-Noranda - we did fine with 10 litres extra.
The frost heaves are brutal especially at 140 plus.

any update?

Nothing much to update... hotel rooms are booked and dam tour is booked.

I've been watching the extended forecast and hoping the weather stays decent for the week. It might be cool, especially up there (possible highs of 12 to 15 up in Radisson), so everyone going had better bring cool riding gear as well as sufficient rain gear.

I haven't heard anything more about forest fires up that way, so hopefully all roads are open and there is not too much ash blowing around.

Other than that just have to pack the bike and wait for the day.

Speaking of which... On Monday Aug 5 we intend to meet at 6:30am. We will be leaving the Husky heading to North Bay as soon as everyone has arrived, has fueled up, and is ready to go -- but the absolute cutoff for departure will be 7am. Don't come rolling in at 6:55 and expect us to wait while you fuel up, etc.. If you are running late and still want to go, then you can try to catch up further up the road (but that is your risk to take).

Touring on a Burgman, cool.

Why not - I've already done the James Bay Road and this guy did the entire Australia loop.

26,000 km - 42 days including a couple of 1200km plus.

Lots of riders have dumped their Wings etc for the Burgman 650 to tour - mostly one up but a fair number two up.

Once you figure out "roll and go" is the future....you'll understand:D

105 litres of storage with no side bags and that's not counting the very useful front storage.

versus the Multistrada with 120 with side cases and top case and my ST1100 with 102 litres with side cases and OEM top case

Re: Anyone interested in a James Bay Highway tour

Welp, the trip is done.

3600km in 4 days.

Of the 4 riders, 1 bike had a rear axle problem at km 232 of the 0 to 380 gap between Matagami and the gas station. That bike and rider didn't go further.

Too tired at the moment to upload much else (rode from Matagami through Quebec highway 117 to Ottawa and back to Mississauga today -- 1141km)

But here is the wee strom at James Bay:

DId you get any weather?

DId you get any weather?

Wednesday was raining all day. We had maybe 75km of the 620km between Radisson and Matagami worth of not raining and some of it was coming down very hard.
We all found out that there is no such thing as waterproof -- everyone's gear leaked and we all got soaked. I got soaked twice. First before the mid-stop gas station with my first set of rain gear, then at the gas station I swapped that for dry clothes and different rain gear and they got soaked too.

I will upload all the pictures I have shortly, and I will post them once I get the pics from the others. That forest fire that was happening in June was massive and the gas station in the middle was lucky to have survived. I would estimate the burnt region spanned 150km of the road with the gas station right in the middle of the burn.

Okay, here is the ride report: http://visrun.blogspot.ca/

These are just my pictures, and I am a crap photographer and I didn't realize my phone made such crappy resolution panorama shots...
