On Harleys?Performance and weight savings
Yep, For a few years i rode without earplugs. Now i will not leave the house without them.
Theyāre tasteful to YOU. Doesnāt mean that everyone else may agree.I have aftermarket V&H's pipes on my bike, but holy hell, they have a tasteful tone, and I don't drive like a jacktard in residential areas.
I concurn with others - people with these pipes are their own worst enemies and the reason for this result, end stop.
Good way of looking at things. I've said it from my 1st post. A "loud" exhaust with a idiot rider/driver is the cause of most of the noise issues.Theyāre tasteful to YOU. Doesnāt mean that everyone else may agree.
Overall I agree though, many exhaust systems have a good tone, and itās the riders that are at fault. No need to be screaming in 1st gear in a residential area.
Have a neighbour with a big blue, and loud Harley....guy leaves at 4:30am...BUT...he fires it up, all dressed and sitting on the bike. From firing it up to gone down the street...maybe 10 seconds. He doesnāt rumble and let it sit while he gears up. Good neighbour.

Slip on is virtually no performance change, just noise. Weight savings is a reasonable comment but you can get most of the weight savings in a system that still provides reasonable noise reduction. Let's be honest, the vast majority of exhaust systems are installed because people want to change how their bike sounds or want to make their bike louder and weight and power are happy side effects.Performance and weight savings
I 100% agree with this. If you want real weight savings on your motorcycle. Go on a diet.Slip on is virtually no performance change, just noise. The subies are pretty bad. Guy a block away has a WRX and something else (debadged sti?) you can hear them whenever they start. A guy three blocks away has a subie with huge exhaust tips and what sure sounds like not much muffling. He idles his car in the driveway for minutes before leaving every time. You can hear that car inside our house too even when it is idling. Please donāt take my comment as criticism @PrivatePilot . Just saying what we justify to ourselves as reasonable may not jive with your neighbours/locals.
My wife hated the WRX as when I started it the thing was so loud(stock) it would wake the kids.
Now between the Volt, 500X and the quiet garage door she canāt tell when I drive up or away. I am considering a diff exhaust on the X but not sure itās worth a 2kg saving or $.

300 pounds guy on 500cc bike will gain nothing by switching exhausts..
Snip.....

How about adding stickers?I 100% agree with this. If you want real weight savings on your motorcycle. Go on a diet.

Very possible....but all I can comment on is what I see and hear. Outside of that who knows.I bet he doesn't show the same respect to people once he is outside the neighbourhood. Only respects people who know who he is....
I think the "Z900" is the tip off. You don't see these because they're buried down underneath. That doesnāt look like anything off a bike.
As for obnoxiously loud cars, thatās another story. The ācrackle tuneā nonsense that seems to be the new hotness in the ricer world is trash.
Get off my lawn.

Track bikes have more restriction on sound level than street bikes do in most cases. It will be interesting to see how the new Oro track addresses this as adding a new track within kilometres of existing housing creates an uproar (for good reason).Hmm, ok. Perspective of the picture and the pipe size makes it look like something off a car though.
But in the grand scheme of a road driven motorcycle, a 4 pound weight loss is going to accomplish what, exactly?
On a track where the performance gains and advantages come in small slivers, I get it I guess, sure, but then weāre off topic so far as street operated motorcycles and their noise levels.
I remember having a similar conversation with a friend who was trying to justify spending mega $$$ on a new racing bicycle to save a few ounces.I 100% agree with this. If you want real weight savings on your motorcycle. Go on a diet.
