I have owned one for 1 year. Bought an '09 new as a left-over when the new and improved 2010 was announced, and Honda Canada cleared them out at around $3,400 less than MSRP
Very smooth, tons of torque. Doesn't need to rev over 6000 in normal riding, red-line is 10k or maybe 10.5. Speedo is actually accurate, which is rare on a a motorcycle. 100 KPM = 4000 RPM. 120 KPM = 5000 RPM.
Not a sport bike, but smooth, comfortable, "standard" ergonomics, more than fast enough for me, excellent ABS brakes, good looking (to me, especially after I removed most of the decals).
I'm hoping for the reliability Hondas are famous for. The biggest known issue is alternator. Read about it on
CBF1000.com. Seems to happen too often for comfort, though most bikes have no issues. You can connect with local riders there.
Aftermarket is out there, but mostly Euro-centric, so less than you'd find for a bike sold in the US. Twisted Throttle has some accessories. I added SW Motech engine guards, front fender extender, SW Motech mirror-extensions, SW Motech Alu-Rack and Givi adapter for my top box. Les at Dual Sport Plus is a Twisted Throttle dealer, and I ordered most of my stuff from him (get part numbers on-line, e-mail him for $).
There are very few standard motorcycles around. The FZ1 is too sport-biased for me. The Bandit 1250 is a good candidate. A used 919 is a great bike too, more sporty than the CBF.
