Found an iphone4. dont know who it belongs to. i wanted to get into the phonebook and get this person's home number so i can call and inform them to take the phone. but the phone has a password on it. anyone know if theres a way to get to the phonebook somehow?

They didn't call the phone?
They deserve to have it lost

I don't know how to unlock it but I do know that if a wrong password is entered ten times, the phone basically shuts down.

i did try a bunch of passwords many times. it said it is blocked for a minute. i guess i could keep trying again and again...

wat i was thinking of.. is there a way to connect it to a computer and get the phone numbers from that? any software for a thing like that?

there r still some decent honest ppl left in this world

ughhh. i dont have time for myself these days. let alone for stupid **** like this. i guess thats the last resort.

could be a complete waste of time, but maybe bring it to a police station?

Take the SIM card out and put it in another phone, if it's unlocked/the same carrier you'll be able to pull up that phone's number or call your own to determine what it is.

That said, the phonebook is generally stored on the iPhone itself and not the SIMcard (I believe at least? since it'll want to import your SIM contacts before you can access the phone book)... so there may or may not be a Home/ICE number to call stored on the SIM card. But worth a try.

Whats wrong with just leaving it on and waiting for the owner to call it?

worth a shot. ill try to find someone with an iphone or some other kind of "smart phone?" i believe the sim cards on these things dont work on regular phones, right?

Doesn't necessarily have to be another iPhone, though most other phones still use standard-sized SIMs vs the iPhone 4's MicroSIM. If you have access to a SIM adapter you can put the card in any SIM-compatible phone; most carrier stores will have these handy at least for testing.

I doubt if they'd be of help, but if you contact the carrier with the IMEI number from the SIMcard, perhaps they'll be willing to give you the person's contact info/reach them for you.

hah. thought about the same thing just as u did. see my edited post! lol
i doubt they will give me their info though because of these days privacy laws. but it is a good suggestion. ill try it when i go to a cell phone store.

I'd agree - you'd actually be surprised to know how many people report lost cellphones to the police. They usually just need a serial number or IMEI number to check. If not, bring it to a service provider, if it's registered to a person with that provider they will know - just don't leave the phone with them - they'll prob just take it for themselves.
If to no avail, just keep it. I'd feel better knowing I exhausted all options, before just keeping it for myself. Just my 2 cents.

Glad to know that if I lost my phone, on a GTAM ride, half the peeps on here wouldn't return it to me or at least try. Good lookin out ! Sheesh.

Just bring it to the Apple store... You'll either make kid happy 'cause you just gave him a free phone or he'll actually try to find the right owner.

You can still plug in that phone if the battery is low, won't affect the phone at all.

It uses a Micro-Sim so you need a smartphone that will accept a micro-sim. If I was the owner i'd be using the 'find-my-phone' function. It uses the GPS function in the phone to locate it assuming it can get a GPS sat (and the phone is powered on and hasn't been wiped yet). You can also bring it to an Apple store. They can do a cross reference on the serial# on the back. If the owner registered it with Apple they will have a record of it.
