Any updates on Cell Phones?

1) Which service has the best guarantee for 'remote areas' riding through the States?

2) Which deal is the least expensive for emergency calling only!

3) Additional tips appreciated.
 
I picked up a T-Mobil sim card, with unlimted US calling and Unlimited Canada cell phone calling with unlimited text messaging for $60/US with unlimited data. But since I have a blackberry I couldn't use the data aspect of it.

Good service....they have more basic plans, I think $30 gets you 1 month limited calling etc...

And I belive T-Mobil is the only service provider that issues SIM cards there, I paid in cash..

So you paid $60 for the sim and that includes all that which you said? Is that for a month?

How much are you going to be using your phone? If its emergency calling only, I assume only minutes at a time. If thats the case, I'd bite the roaming charges since it will probably be cheaper in the long run.

When I was in the states, most of the places have cell phone reception even in the most remote areas. I even had cell phone reception when I was camping out in the middle of the desert. There were only few places that I couldnt get a signal.
 
yes emergency calls are free.

I have a few SIM cards (AT&T, T-mobile), they are only like $10 each for prepaid sim cards in the USA. No phone will guarantee service, its all about the service provider and your distance from the cell towers.
 
I just bought 3 SIM cards from Amazon sent to the address I'll be using there (a hotel). I got an AT&T one, an H2O one and a T Mobile card. All three cost me about $10 total with free shipping. When I get there I'll activate one of them. I got good advice that the H2O card is a good one with a good all-inclusive/unlimited (except data) plan that includes $20 international calls for about $49.
