thermal socks. thermal underwear. thermal undershirt. thermal pants.

Its been getting colder, and im starting to freeze my nutz off.
any tips from experienced riders? I plan on riding till it snows :)

I just installed heated grips and I can tell you I wish I did this years ago......very nice on the chilly mornings or when the sun disappears

cheap and easy is buy a thick pair of reain pants from tsc or that, costs about $22 and keeps your legs warm.
wear a turtle nex aswell as a few layers, keeps your neck warm
good riding jacket should be wind proof, add a nice set of gloves to go over your cuffs. keeps cold air from going up. can ride in 0 degrtees

Pinlock visor...or some other anti fog system...

i wear thermals and stick to day rides now. under armor makes some nice hockey gear, throw that under my leather and it keeps me toasty. also if you go to marks work wearhouse they have these thing blue gloves, dont recall the name off hand but i wear them under my gloves and they add a layer of warmth

Everyone has a different tolerance for cold, but heated gloves and grips keep me riding into December. Riding involves moving through the air, thus windchill, so you need layers that stop airflow. Without stopping airflow all the cotton in the world won't keep you warm. Even an outer layer of rain gear will help.

I can usually ride down to -5 degrees.
You do not want any exposed skin. Which means buying at least a neck warmer or a turtle neck or both.
Use many thin layers close to the body. Thicker layers near the outside. Finishing with full leather, no breathing holes.
I typically will wear on a cold day.

Regular boxers.
One piece long johns
Only leather pants over this on the bottom.
Thick T shirt.
Work shirt.
Maybe a thick long sleeve shirt. (if it's really cold)
Thick turtle neck shirt.
Leather jacket.
Neck warmer.
Boots.
I buy $20 dollar leather gloves at one of the cheap Indian dealers at the show.
They are the BEST gloves I have ever had in all the 40 years of riding I have done.

awesome advice so far! i ended up hopping over to sport check got some thermal pants and shirt

going to look into a balaclava cause i think the worst part was all that cold air against my chin lastnight. ive seen some helmets with a kinda curtain by the chin reduce air flow there, myn doesnt have that so need something to cover neck and chin.

anyone have a good balaclava they recommend? i was checking stuff out at revzilla.

Depends a bit on how far you are riding and how cold of course.
Layers work best in my view.

Balaclava or neckwarmer for sure. The issue with a balaclava is how tight your helmet is. I wear a light balaclava all the time for tunes and have a neckwarmer along these lines. - the longer the bib front and back the better to seal.

Lots of glove options - I find the back of my hands suffer the worst and my thumb.

Stick with technical underwear - no cotton as if you sweat then you freeze with cotton on. Dri-fit stuff is great. Long distance - poly underwear is excellent.

A decent rain jacket can be a "last layer" option that does double purpose. I wear a bright yellow iCon and it's good even on cooler days like now.

Revzilla is excellent and you can return stuff no questions asked.

If you mention your bike type it helps as those with a lot of upfront protection like mine have a different situation to deal with than sport or naked.

Fogging can be very dangerous and balaclavas and neck warmers make it worse.

Also really depends on the distance. I've ridden at 6-8 degrees from PA in the rain and down near freezing locally with various layers and a few runs below freezing for very short hops to the store - leaks around the helmet and gloves show up right quick.

Longer runs you risk hypothermia so warm up breaks are good - just don't get sweaty.

I have tried those breath guards that stop fogging.
They bother the hell out of me and don't work that well.
You just have to control your breathing until you can get your visor opened.
I have tossed every breath guard I have ever bought with a helmet. Not worth the pain in the butt.

bro tip: buy the leather warm gloves i'm selling. if you freeze your hands while riding you can't control the bike properly.

Start with a good quality motorcycle rain suit. They completely stop the wind... Underneath wear riding pants and possibly thermal underwear. This is the time for long sleeve shirts and leather jackets...
I have heated glove liners. Around 8 degrees C the hands are the biggest problem. But with the warmers and leather gloves, ice on the road is the party ender.
