Any Supersport riders move to Supermoto?

Any Supersport riders move to Supermoto as a second bike? This seems to be a growing trend, and looks quite fun. If you are riding both, which is the bigger buzz?

Any wipeouts that have resulted in broken bones preventing you from riding your beloved SS?

Besides going anywhere, and riding on one wheel, what else have you done on your Supermoto?

This seems to be a good Canadian choice as this would be the bike to ride into the winter months.

Actually, I sold my 750 Katana and got a DR650 this past spring.

I bought it more as a commuter than an off-roader, but the capability is there. I've put more street oriented tires on it, and am considering a smaller front rim. Some guys have 2 sets of wheel - Sumo and Adventure.
I will be upgrading the suspension over the winter. It's so much more fun in the city, and you don't feel the need to go as fast to get the same thrills.

It's a more realistic day-to-day ride than a sport bike which very few ridiers ever really get the full potential.

If you stick to city and around city riding, supermoto is the way to go. The moment you need to do a bit of a longer ride, it's a pain. I wouldn't stay on hwy longer than 30 mins. It's just not what the bikes were made for.

I actually don't think it's very good choice when adverse weather is concerned. There's no wind protection, so you always get a full blast and shower of whatever is on hand. The one thing where it does excel is pot holes, ****** roads ... .so as I said, great for GTA ... LOL

Stock handguards and a cheap windshield for cool weather takes care of that. I have no problem ridng in crappy weather.
I've done many 2 hour plus rides on my D/S. People take d/s bikes on RTW's all the time - it's what they're built for!

Considering one for past year...
Wrx250 looks promising.. First
Have to get rid of A bike or two

I bought a WR250X end of last year and I love it. However, it's painful for longer rides -- comfort is not an issue, but the lack of power is.

On the other hand, it's absolutely perfect for the city!

Good to know... Maybe suzuki drz 450 is a better option

just 'ontario' licensed and insured my husaberg and will be out on the 'forks' with it at lunchtime today. if you are interested in a quick ride on it, let me know here, as l am actively debating selling or trading it.

If my bike was together I would join you. I want a sm for the street, just not sure if I should... I like having no tickets

I have been considering this for a while, bored of SS, impractical for city riding which is majority of my usage.

However the 250sm are just too underpowered for me, wish KTM still made those 950sm monsters..

I have a KTM 690 SMC. More than adequate for the highways and plenty of fun in the twisties, and great in the city. Not as light as the smaller SMs. Just got back from riding the western states and no major issues. Though the gas mileage was crap when doing 75+mph on the interstates.

Went from a ZX-6R to a Modded DRZ400(440BB, 39mm FCR, MRD/SSW Exhaust). One of the best street bikes around. Makes you want to do all manner of stupid ****. I don't mind riding highway on it, but you'll be revving it out quite a bit.

I have 2 sets of rims and ride it on trails as well.

The stock DRZ is pretty slow but with with some mods you can open them up quite a bit. The maintenance is no worse than any sportbike and the motors are bulletproof.

I bought a DRZ 400 last year, primarily because I wanted a bike I could ride on and off the trails. Then I bought supermoto rims, brakes and tires for it. I sold my 09 R6 in January because I no longer enjoyed riding it compared to the DRZ. My bike's not going to set any land speed records on the highway but in the city and twistys it's a lot of fun. I've done all day rides (highway) on it and it's more comfortable than any SS I've ridden.
Riding a supermoto makes me feel like I did when I first started riding street at 16. Every time I hop on the bike I feel like a hooligan, it reminds me of why I started riding in the first place.

I've gone to and from Ottawa like 8 times this summer on my DRZ400 with it's stock seat, gotta do some standing/hanging of the bike to get weight off the arse, its a pain. Other than that, have ridden plenty of bikes, hayabusa, cbr1000rr, cbf1000/600, plenty of BMW's, it is just more fun! I find you can just goof off more with the bike. Riding in Toronto is actually kind of fun on my dizzer too haha.

I've got a Corbin seat and it made a big difference. I still stand on occasion but the seat transitions wide and flat to the rear and that's a big help.

I've been thinking about getting a supermoto as a second bike. Keep the gixxer for around the town riding and short trips but would love to have something a bit more comfortable for longer rides and something that would actually make it up to the cottage (last 30 minutes are dirt roads..my dad did it on his goldwing and said never again).

I built a supermoto this year, but I dont think its the kind your asking about. Mine is a 2012 KX450F converted into supermoto, so its not street legal, and doesnt have speedo, electric start, headlight.....It does have a ton of power and is super fun to ride though. At the moment it seems to be the most fun bike Ive owned.....Its brand new, and also a new type of bike for me so I really enjoy it. Really looking forward to doing some track days with it...
