Any rules for choosing a number?

Some organisations will give you a number.
For AMA MX racing, you have to use the last 3 numbers on your district license. Once you go to another district you'll need another number to correspond with the number that district gave you, and then follow the color rules for the numbers for your class.

I could potentially have 3 different numbers this season. One for my Regular local racing (that number I chose and I "Own" that number in that series since I currently hold it) and I might be racing two different districts in the states this year to qualify for a bigger race later in the season, and each of those will be a different number.

Luckily it takes 2 minutes to change all 3 number plates on a dirt bike!

How corny are race numbers on a track bike?
Should I just slap on some numbers trackside if an organizer requires it or go full out with a white number plate and red numbers?
I feel corny as **** putting numbers on a track only bike.

Throw in a little originality too.... *thinking of Omnivore's number font* lol. There's going to be a new additional to the bike this year, and although it's cool and funny it'll have a little personal sentiment only me and my family will recognize.

Race numbers or not, every track day I've been to required numbers. It's not so much to identify your bike as a race bike, but to help the corner workers identify you.

It's quite common for bikes to be running numbers assigned and installed at the track, often in green or blue painters tape.

Funny I've never had to run numbers at a track day, I'm sure it's up to the organizer though.

Nope, haven't ridden bogie yet. I've lived a sheltered track life, Shannonville, Cayuga, and Grand Bend are the only tracks I've ridden. I haven't been at this track thing too long and racing last year ruined track days for me. I've ridden with riders choice a couple times and never needed a number, and at soar I was racing so I had a number.

I don't think it's lame...it's a track bike, have a little fun with it

^ that's what I'm doing, trying to look the part even though my lap times might not be up there

I've done a number of day with RC without a number on my bike. Next year I'll be rocking 313

Did you book any Mosport days for 2013?

Nope, plan to race the national there so that'll get me quality track time. If that doesn't happen I'll sneak in somehow...

Have some fun, make it original. I'm going to be adding some personal touches this year. I'm going to pick up a bogie day or two with Pro6 this year (finally going to go), just waiting to replace the truck I sold and get an enclosed trailer in the spring.

Baptism by Fire! Of all the tracks to just show up and race, most would say CTMP is among the worst. Not saying its impossible, but just not too smart. Mosport has many little idiosyncrasies that take a few laps to learn. You could bin up your bike and get hurt,.... or worse, you could be slow and embarrass your sponsor(s)!

P.S. You're going to love SC1 Pirreli's after 2 years on hard Dunlops(snicker)

some trackday providers are requiring numbers. Its a marshal thing, they want to be able to identify downed riders instantly when calling in crashes to control.

Nobody every accused me of being overly intelligent and that's what practice is for. With all the new sections of asphalt I may have a bit of an advantage and not have a line burned into my memory that keeps me off the concrete that's not there anymore. Or I'll blame it on the tires, isn't that what your suppost to do anyway (unless they're dunlops, then it's you not the tire)?
