Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

So probably about 50k+ in Canada. But I'm glad to see more and more options coming into play.

EVs are already more expansive than comparable ICE cars. It'll just reduce the 'benefit' to nothing more than a feel good, eco-friendly fuzzy feeling.

Agreed and by a large margin. I just don’t see the guv letting the gasoline dollars slip through the cracks so they have to make it up somewhere for the economy.
Others have had thoughts on taxes etc which is plausible for sure. I don’t see the guv having an issue billing everyone via elec either though regardless of usage. Slowly increasing elec rates may go unnoticed compared to a new or additional tax.
Also I’d expect the gap in EV pricing over ICE to decrease as tech improves. Likely via ICE cost going up not EV going down.

Windsor trips are about to get a lot easier for EV owners. Charging stations are being installed at Dutton OnRoute westbound (km 142 or so), don't know about eastbound yet. They are there, they are working on the electrical panel, so it won't be long. And...Shell station near my customer, just past where the 401 ends, has 150kW chargers in place but coned off, so not available yet, but it won't be long. That one has a Timmies and McDs within walking distance.

edit: Update: Chargers also in place at the eastbound Dutton OnRoute. And at the Cambridge eastbound OnRoute, never thought to check westbound as I passed by there at dark o'clock this morning.

I'd say about $35.5k CAD actually based on the 2022 Bolt EUV base prices on both chevrolet.ca and .com where the factor is 1.1825 ($40,198 / $33,995).

Throw in the Fed Govt rebate and you're around $30.5k. (y)(y) Maybe less if the Province joins in eventually.

Dont forget about the "market adjustment" if you want one in the first year.

Hell I wouldn't even mind the Bolt for 30k as a brand new car to replace my Volt.

I usually wait until the 2nd year minimum when the hype has died down & 1st year issues are addressed but yeah things are getting ridiculous with these ADM's!

Same ... I don't need the big space I see with most EV's coming out. A new Bolt EV or EUV is the right size for me. I love the Ioniq 5 but again, way more car than I need as the kids stage is long gone for me.

Right now just looking at numbers briefly I'd be in 15-20k to change the Volt to the Bolt...def not worth it for me. Make it an 8-10k range to change, and I'd be more willing to pull the trigger.

Do Elon promised to eliminate gridlock with a tunnel….LMAO

This thing is a death trap. One car lights up and they’re all dead. No emergency walkway, tight as hell, most likely no emergency buildings. No full / emergency ventilation because electric cars (I assume as I don’t see a vent duct).

Source: I work in tunnels.

IIRC Elon was pushing the hyperloop years back. Great in principle but no mention of emergency measures.

Dont forget merging at 100 mph with autopilot in control.

It is interesting following the lobbing on the EV front. We like to think regulations are driven by technology..... not really.

Higher levels of government just want their taxes but also want zero emissions and are easily swayed by lobbyists...., blah, blah,.etc.
Same group wants no new ICE by XXX date.
Lower levels of government want their pound of flesh/cut. tracking etc.
No one wants to spend a penny more than they need to (mostly building infrastructure), no one wants to actually pay for anything including urban centres.
Private industry cannot figure out the charging station ROI.
Automakers (most not all) want recurring revenue (ie subscription based usage etc.).
Automakers want to reduce electronics (reduce charging options), not opposed to delete self....
Standardization on things like charging are required but everyone wants their standard to not re-engineer.
Cell providers want 5G and 6G mandated, plus tracking.
Service stations want a business model that includes them.
Utilities want their cut.
Groups wanting to stop/delay EV entirely
The list is actually much longer than this....

Pardon the pun, but many here are just not "plugged in" to what is coming.

It is a prediction, being in the loop, but self charging is totally on the chopping block but there are also many ugly things coming.

Come back in eight years and tell me I was wrong....

There is no way Level 2 SAE J1772 AC charging is going away. EV adoption for the foreseeable future (and that's 10 or 15 years out or maybe more) needs the bulk of EV owners to be able to slowly recharge overnight at home. The generating/distribution grid needs that, too. Just because there are some people who are not able to do that, doesn't mean everyone should be (or will be) denied the ability to do that. Every EV in production or in the pipeline including production for years into the future includes Level 2 AC charging capability. If anything, what will be more common are bidirectional charging ports, in which not only can the car charge from AC but it can also supply AC back to a load - using the car as an energy-storage buffer as part of an overall "smart grid" approach. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 (actually Hyundai's entire E-GMP vehicle platform) has this capability. It appears that some VW ID vehicles have the hardware capability but the software hasn't allowed it, but VW is soon to be implementing it: VW ID. models to get faster charging and bidirectional charging

And yes, eventually, I expect that road taxes will have to be paid by some other means, but we are a long way away from that.

I wouldn't be so sure. JT is all in on EV's (with no plan but lots of fluff) but Douggie doesn't appear to be enamored. How much of Douggie's voting base is EV owners (or people that believe EV's are a great way forward for the environment)? It's an election year, I would be surprised if at least one of the parties didn't propose a road tax for EV's as common people will see that as taxing the 1% but not them nor their friends (although the 1% mostly drive gas guzzling range rovers so it's all theatre).
