Another myth shot to h*ll

But what about the subsidies to the corn farmers ???

I didn't read the article. Some people that did claimed that studies were cherry picked to reach the desired conclusion and most corn is no-till and the conclusion relies on tilling to tip the balance.

Either way turning food into gas never sounded like a good idea.

"hey corn is cheap let's make gas out it"
"hey they're making gas from this corn let's jack the price"

It's got its pros and cons like any other type of fuel that can be used in a internal combustion engine.

The reason why it's expensive is because it takes A LOT of corn to make the fuel. It takes 26.1 pounds of corn to produce 1 gallon of ethanol (4.54 litres)

Pretty sure the price of corn jumped when they started building ethanol plants. Supply vs demand.

I was riding through corn country USA in 2008 and listening to the local news. Ethanol producers wanted subsidies because corn prices had gone so high. Corn prices went high because corn was being bought in megatons by the ethanol producers.

IIRC ethanol production is only marginally profitable if done in conjunction with a feed lot, with the cows eating the drained mash. How much energy does it take to make a liter of methanol? How much energy is in a liter of methanol?

100% of researchers studies agree with the people funding them...

"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which administers the nation’s biofuel policy, is considering changes to the program." Here's to hoping for ethanol-free 87 octane again, or at least a stop to potentially mandating ethanol in 91 octane.

Ethanol is bad news....and less energy dense than gas. A litre of ethanol won't take you as far as a litre of gas. People wonder why they have ******** mileage than they expect with ethanol blends.

3% worse with 10% ethanol - how's that workin' out for you ?

Do we even have E85 here? I've never seen any stations with it
These are feelings not facts, but I feel like you could find it in a couple of specific places when GM was still selling "Flex Fuel" vehicles. I think it's all dried up now though

You can buy drums of it in the GTA. Not sure how many stations have pumps (probably few to none in the province). E85 can make big hp gains if you have the fuel capacity (pumps and injectors) and tune for it. In the ballpark of 20% above 93.

I want a GoFundMe so I can experiment with bypassing the inefficient ethanol conversion. I'm going to directly mix popcorn into the gasoline. Going to be rough on the injectors. I'm going to call it Gas-light.
