Android app reports keystrokes to big brother...

I read a similar article a few weeks ago about tapatalk

holy ****, thats 10x worse than Apple and the fiasco they had with tracking...

“Our technology is not real time,” he said at the time. "It's not constantly reporting back. It's gathering information up and is usually transmitted in small doses.”

lol... because that makes it much better.

no kidding. Someone needs to hire a better spokesperson.

Bummer of a name.

In an interview last week, Carrier IQ VP of Marketing Andrew Coward rejected claims the software posed a privacy threat because it never captured key presses.

ok, but this isn't just tracking, this is straight out key logging...any of you doing banking on your device? even over wifi it was pulling info on encrypted sites...i'm just wondering what ties this company has in the industry...we're not talking about an app you install from the store, it's preinstalled with the OS, before you buy the phone...sure apple had their issues, but that was location tracking only as far as i know, correct me if i'm wrong...anyways, i like that once the kid spoke with EFF and they in turn chatted with C.IQ that the lawsuit got dropped...lol...

Sorry, this is somewhat offtopic, but sadly Android partners are ruining their own image, just like OEM Windows manufacturers by installing all this crapware onto the phones. It's worse than Windows, because I can't even uninstall these retarded apps without rooting the phone. I love Android, but these handset manufacturers have not learned from Apple that your image and user experience is worth more than selling out to app manufacturers for per handset installs.

You beat me to it.
Coward went on to say that Carrier IQ was a diagnostic tool designed to give network carriers and device manufacturers detailed information about the causes of dropped calls and other performance issues.

I knew from the start, my information on my cell phone is not private. Thats why I don't do banking on my phone. I would really hate to lose my banking acct. password to someone

Advantages to living in debt, who cares if someone has access to your banking acct. ;)

LOL, being in debt doesn't mean that things can't get worse :)

This is why you should only buy Nexus phones. The Nexus phones are the pure Android experience as Google intended. No bloatware, no locks, no crap on it.

Because Google created the OHA (Open Handset Alliance), other manufactures like Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG, Acer, Asus all can use the Android Open Source Project to create phones. It's those manufacturers that are installing Carrier IQ. A simple root and ROM change will get rid of it though.

Yeah guys don't worry about the keylogging software on your factory new phone... all you gotta do is wipe the operating system from it, hack it up a bit, and load up a new OS and ROM... PRESTO, no more big brother tracking your every keystroke! ridiculous

If this gets verified and confirmed as truth, it's the single biggest invasion of privacy I've yet heard of... heads need to roll and people need to go to prison for this ****. It's indefensible.

But its on the internet, so it all must be true!

Seems pretty good so far! The company in question threatened legal action, then apologized, and then all-but-confirmed the rumors by downplaying what it is that they really do.

Doesn't get any worse than this, folks. Have fun with your RIM and Android handsets  careful with that online banking and confidential business emails
