and you thought e-bikes on our streets were bad...

Remember those bigwheel trikes with pedals? Here's the e-version that's street legal... complete with pedals :/

Not sure it will come to Canada, or will actually be allowed in the end, but wtf???

The upside of this is that if many of these actually do show up on streets taking up an entire lane, there should be enough backlash by drivers to force lawmakers to finally update the laws, and once they're doing that, it's not much work to address the 2-wheeled versions at the same time.

Doesn't fit definition of ebike nor LSV nor LSM so illegal in Ontario (when used outside of private property that you own). I guess if it came with a 17 digit vin you might be able to use it with an M like a Spyder.

Ain't a hope in hell of that thing ever being street legal. Will they be on the street? Of course. They're No Hanging Fruit.

Remember why the the big 4 quit making those years ago??

I don't see Toronto banning them as too many votes go to the anti car crowd. I've already seen a couple of four wheeled, low power E-cars running without a license. The laws are vague and misunderstood.

Lsv's are an ontario government pilot. They are only allowed in municipalities that pass a bylaw to allow them. Afaik, no municipality has done that. Doesn't stop every ebike shop from selling them though.

The two I saw were in Mississauga. One was headed to Brampton.

They are basically golf carts with a shell. Good luck going through a traffic light in Brampton.

The manufacturers signed what's called a consent decree with the US government, effectively killing them off. The lawsuit cloud hanging over them wasn't worth the risk to keep on making them.

An O.S. cup holder that will hold a sixer of Hennessy and you're invulnerable.

Or is it invisible. I can never remember.

Those things were pretty dangerous the first time around . If they aren’t seriously detuned the law suits shouldn’t be far behind.

Who are you going to sue? Made in China and armed with Chinese incendiaries.

Imported by a numbered company and resold to another numbered company operating out of a rented shop. No assets. The fine print may say "Check for local bylaws."

A buddy In Barrie bought an 85 KPH kick scooter in the GTA. When I pointed out the potential ri$k$ he said the seller never told him that.

"Would you have bought it if he had?"

"No"

"Guess why he didn't tell you."

It's not about banning them specifically, but refining the laws to effectively make then illegal. Or at least as illegal as riding a bicycle on the sidewalk (depending on the municipality). The anti-car crows is most likely walkers and bicyclists. I guarantee you these people are just as annoyed by e-bikes as we are, probably more when they come whizzing by at much higher speed differentials.

They are illegal to use now. No new laws needed. Unless a law explicitly allows a motor vehicle somewhere, it it illegal. Things get much grayer for non-motor vehicles.
