Am I the only one who can't afford it?

Most of the insurance discounts are about how many years you have your motorcycle license (M2 or M), not how many years you have motorcycle insurance. Of course, having continous insurance helps, but it's not a major factor.

Sorry, Dude - that's incorrect. I've had my "motorcycle license" since before there was such a thing - and I had insurance back then, too. I was off bikes for a whole bunch of years and when I finally got one again, ten years ago, the insurance company could care less about the 30+ years I've had an M.C. license, they were interested in how many years I've had a bike continuously insured for. Those first couple of years were nothing short of robbery.

I just purchase liability. To go for full coverage meant I would have essentially paid for a new bike every three years. My VTX 1800 still only costs about $850 a year. If I wrap it around a pole, it's my tough cookies, but I've saved a TON of dough the past 12 years...
