Am I being crazy? 09 R6 vs 09 CBR600RR

Ride a 2006 and newer R6 in traffic if you are borderline suicidal and want that enxtra push to make you do it.

Zero bottom and midrange. Zero. Nothing happening below 11 grand. Great racebike though.

What's wrong with the 796 for commuting? much more comfortable than an SS. I would take the cbr over the r6, even though I think the r6 looks alot better

796 was great for commuting and after all my mods I had it looking pretty bad *** but I never really liked the bike. Not enough power and a little to relaxed of a riding position for me.

Im bias towards the r6, it is a sexy bike. In terms of looks the RR just cant match.

I say go for the r6 but you gotta find a better deal.

Recent Inside Motorcycles magazine does gearing and dyno shootout between an old school steel frames YZF600R (before any R6 even came out) against a new R6.

Below 9500 rmp, the old , carbed YZF abolutely killed the new R6.
So unless you think you are gonna be riding a new R6 above 9500 rpm on the streets, even a $2500 carbed YZF would be a better streetbike, not to mention way more comfy.

Unless of course you need to buy a raceready supersport instead of a fashion accessory.

If you clearly liked one more than the other, it would be easy. Since you're having trouble choosing between the two, then I think you have to take narrow it down to what will affect you the most - comfort and handling in the conditions you most often ride. When I was looking for a bike 3 years ago, I wanted a 600 and I wanted a Honda. So it seemed easy. But it wasn't, because 95% of my riding is commuting and the RR wasn't comfortable enough at low speeds where I spend about half of my commute. I've had naked UJMs, a big sport tourer, and a couple of 600's. I wanted a sport bike because I like the fun and I like the style. I ended up searching for a used CBR F4 - capable, comfortable and reliable - and I found one with low mileage. Haven't regretted it once.
Buy it for how you're going to ride it, not for how you might ride it. If it's comfortable, you'll ride it more.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and opinions.

I bought the CBR today. Just too good of a deal to pass up. Bike is brand new and lady driven for the 1,500km's that are on it. Very clean and mint shape.

I sat on them both this morning and the CBR seemed a little more commute friendly. I was also concerned of the R6 low end so I'm confident I made the best choice. Ordered my shorty levers today and will pick out an exhaust tonight. Next dilemma... to full system or not to full system!! lol

Thanks again!

Good choice and congrats! Any pics?

About your next dilemma... to be consistent with the reason you chose the CBR I vote slip-on.

Congrats on the new toy.
Re your exhaust, get a slip on... no tuning, no messing around with maps, etc.
Give Dave @ Competition Cycle a shout, he has one in stock that I'm sure he will sell you CHEAP!

Another for slip on. One word bluestreakracing
I've bought things from Tony before, his prices/service are top notch but I'm telling you...
Dave @ Competition Cycle has one in stock and he will hook it up!

Both are great shops to deal with, I've had nothing but good service and awesome pricing from both.

Dang, lotsa hate for the R6's here... I 've been looking at dyno charts for '09/'10 model years (which are the R6's I'm interested in) and the difference in output for more recent years seems to only be about 5-6 ft-lbs.

It's not as bad as people are making it out to be, plus with a full exhaust change, you can get rid of that slight 'dip' on the torque curve before ~9k rpm, which means you'll end up with a bike that has more power on-top, looks better, and is "close enough" down-low.

Sadly, all of these 600SS's have less torque than my lil' SV650, LMFAO.

The dip at 9k is caused by a lot of factors, some of which are the variable intake stacks opening, switching from the primary injectors to the secondary injectors, a jump in ignition timing and the throttle blades snapping right from 60% to 100%. A full exhaust (or 03-05 headers, or midpipe) plus ECU flash gets rid of the dip (and the 60% throttle restriction), brings back most of the power down low (compared to 03-05 R6/any year R6S) and also keeps 100% throttle right to redline, instead of it backing off the throttle at 13,500RPM :)

Or just get a cbr. Joking

I was kidding about the full system. I had a PC3 on my R1 and and don't feel like going through with the whole dyno and custom mapping thing.

I looked in Canada at prices and unfotunately nobody can compete with the US market. Picked up a Yoshimura Rs-5 Carbon for $440 shipped and taxes paid. I'm going to cut 3 inches of it, gas my rear fender, and put an eliminator in.

As for pics of the bike, I don't have any. Bike is at the dealer being stored in Sarnia and I'm in Toronto. The listings have been pulled down.

I'll take some good pics when I get it all finished up and modded.

5-6 ft lbs is massive, when we are talking about 600cc bikes that make around 40 ft lbs.....like 12-15% less power.

What are you laughing at? Every 600 will pull away from you so hard your helmet will be sucked off your head in the vacuum.
