Am I being crazy? 09 R6 vs 09 CBR600RR

So...

I'm in the market for a small to commute to work and do the odd track day with (maybe 1-2/year) I will realistically put 5,000km/year on my bike (3 kids, wear a suite to work often)

I have owned an R1 for 5 years, CBR1000RR for 1 and lastly a Ducati monster.

I know I want a 600cc bike but I can't make a decision.

Option 1
2009 R6 10,000km
aftermarket exhaust, fender eliminator and a couple other things that I would do if it was stock.
Price is $7500 +tax and it needs new tires.

Option 2
2009 CBR600RR 1,100km's
Stock
Safetied and ready go. Needs nothing but aftermarket parts at my choice.
$7,800 taxes in

I know without a doubt that the CBR is a killer deal compared to the r6 and it's proven to be a better motorcycle for my needs.

For some reason I keep leaning towards the R6.

Am I as nuts as I think I am? I think I need to sit on them both and see what one "feels" best.

Yup, you're crazy. The CBR would make a better commuter bike, looks better, is better...

On the other hand, sometime the better motorcycle is the wrong motorcycle.

I'm obviously biased here but the RR seems like a no-brainer. Not just for the value but because it's all-around better on the street as you already know.
Having said that, you gotta go with your heart and the R6 is a sexy bike! So no, you're not crazy just nuts :)

Based on the two options the RR is the better deal. However, we all know that the R6 is sexy and you'll be more satisfied with that in the end as that's where your heart is. From your profile, it's obvious you like pretty things and the R6 is pretty. My advice, buy neither one of these bikes you've profiled. Look for another R6 with lower clicks. You've owned an R1 before so you know Yamaha is where it's at! :D

I'd go for the Honda. Even more so if it's one of the ones with ABS as that would be a great feature for rain commuting although you might not want it for the track.

7500+tax+~$300 for tires for a bike with 9000 more km seems like a rip-off by comparison.

R6
10k is nothing for mileage
Slipper Clutch
Exhaust(full system = win, slipon = lose)
More comfortable seating position(personal preference, as a tall guy I can't stand the Honda riding position)
You're gonna change the tires anyway for a more track friendly option

Go Honda. /End thread.

p.s. Screw the bikes, tell us about the Porsche!

Crap, need to update this. Sold the Porsche a month ago. Three young kids that are starting skating, gymnastics, rides to school and it just wasn't practical. If I had a second garage I would have kept it but it had to go. Traded for a 2012 Jeep SRT8 and couldn't be happier. Car was wicked fun though.

Wow, very interesting responses.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I know CBR is the better deal but when I switched from my 03 R1 to an 07 CBR1000RR I regretted it.

I'm a huge fan of Honda for the dirt and wouldn't buy anything else, I have just been bitten on the road. It was a nice bike yes but there was just something i didn't like about it. Maybe the riding position I'm not sure.

I know the CBR is a better bike technically speaking (according to all the expert comparisons) and it's a way better deal and will have better resale. There's just something about that raven R6 that's got my eye.

I'm going to sit on them both and that should be the test.

Brain says Cbr but heart says r6.

That Cbr is like brand new. IMO you could find a better deal for the r6

There's just something about that raven R6 that's got my eye.

Whoa whoa, you didn't say anything about a Raven edition before! Super sexy!

I still say RR :D. If for no other reason (power band, build quality, etc) then for the ergos. I'm not a fan of the R6's seating position and the way it focus weight onto the wrists for street application.

What's wrong with the 796 for commuting? much more comfortable than an SS. I would take the cbr over the r6, even though I think the r6 looks alot better

Looks is in the eye of the beholder.

There is no mistaking the Cbr is superior in build quality, ergos, mid range, handling etc.

yamaha to a honda and you regretted it. Better off with the R6 but i am biased. imo honda cbr looks cheaper than yamaha
