Alpinestars Bionic Tech V2 Protection Jacket, is it worth the $$$ (summer protection)

looking for a protector for upper body.
1. it has to be cool enough for a hot summers day ride.
2. protect like my leather jacket that has armor in it, but way too hot. ( only a wicking tshirt underneath)
3. be visible to cagers, so they can hopefully know i'm there

The key to summer cool is air flow and vents.
I have this in white.

Open the cuffs and air flows up the arms and there are four vents at the biceps and shoulders.
Does not help being stuck in traffic tho ...here I can filter .

I have a mesh Joe Rocket which I don't find as cool.
Of course it's returnable if you buy through Amazon.

Take the "water proof" with agrain of salt. Fit is good. Rider designed....US company with an interesting back story. Armor is CE and easily upgraded to CE2. Good fitment adjustments.

The Bionic armored mesh isn't really meant to be used standalone. They're meant to be worn under an MX jersey, which gives you slightly more abrasion resistance (more for the bush than the street).

If you go down wearing just the Bionic jacket, the mesh will disintegrate and the armor will quickly fall out, which gives you next-to-little protection.

I have the A* Bionic mesh jacket, but I find the mesh keeps the armor too close to the skin and I overheat as a result. IMO, the best hot weather gear is some kind of textile mesh jacket with armored inserts, which lets air flow between your skin and the armor.

As usual, everyone's built differently, so somebody else might have a different opinion. If you normally stay cool in the dead of summer, than yeah, maybe the Bionic will work for you.

How about the Alter Ego? Highly visible, comes with liner for cold weather, and the outer shell comes off for hot weather. Very well made and highly adjustable.

Olympia Airglide jacket + pants work well.

Olympia Airglide 6 Jacket & Pants Review

good info in this video,

have checked out other youtube videos on the other products recommended
couldnt find one on alter ego, except 4.1 which was a few years old
watched others like phoenix
HWK had quite a few videos

takeaway, lots of info need to narrow down needs and wants (armour, venting etc..)
more videos to watch, RevZilla gives good reviews

I’ve been wearing an Olympia Dallas Jacket in grey for a few years now. Lots of protection/armour in the right places. Mesh provides good air flow on warmer days.

I've enjoyed Olympia gear but now cannot justify the price against the HWK which is just crazy low yet very decent gear.
I suspect today will put the waterproof claim to test as have both HWK jacket and pants on both claiming water proof. Just misty rain tho. Annoying on the visor.
Rain not forecast but this more of a landed cloud.

How can HWK be so much lower in price, is there a catch, and MacDoc what is Hwy52 like (Gadgarra) it looks like alot of fun!

China vs. Pakistan. I view the off/house brands from either source as suspect. At least when they're manufacturing for the name brands, they're adhering to their specifications (and you're paying for that).

I’m not sure Olympia is still in business?
Can anyone else confirm?

That’s a nice looking jacket.

Seems they got bought out by Motovan and may have been on the cusp of bankruptcy. This thread is from 2020:

But seems Motovan held on through the pandemic and might still be coming out with new models:

FWIW ...I had light rain yesterday coming howe and was dry top and bottom with the HWK gear on tho not sure about one of our tropical deluges. Still nice to come home dry. Not really much of a test.

Fit true to sizing? I could use a textile coat for really hot weather and might pick one of their coats up to try.

Yes - fits true plus there are excellent fitment features to tailor it to you. I rode the other day in light rain ( very light ) and came home dry but that's not much of a test. You just have to make sure the 4 vents are closed and the neck closed. The only thing to be careful of is the wind/water flap behind the zipper tends to get caught in the zip tho has never been an issue releasing it. The liner as with most is useless but I suppose on a cold day might have some benefit.

I bought this in black when it was on sale as well as no tax at GP bikes. Worked out to about $230. All mesh except for the shoulder and elbows, includes a rain liner, and most importantly for me, zippered sleeves with velcro adjuster, so it has both adjustability and fast to wear/remove.
