All in one computers worth it?

If you want an good all in one, an iMac is the best choice.
Especially if for your parents.

HP quality is worrisome

I agree with this statement. For an extra 300 on that price tag you could get a 21 inch mac... depending on your parents computer literacy might be a better move. Not a mac fan there are probably cheaper in ones that would suit your needs out there.

Not sure about dell. It'll be either Lenovo or hp. I was hoping to get some recommendations. All my laptops have been hp. They last 3-5 years. Had toshiba, acer, Asus in past... All garbage.

This one is appealing to parents because they can move it around with them. Only power cord needs to be taken. They like the idea of a large touch screen.

I can get the one I posted above for $850 from hp directly. So not sure if Lenovo would be better.

Any advice is appreciated.

Lenovo i have always had good experience with had a desktop pc of their 5 years worked great until the power supply and that was not even OEM i had upgraded it. I also owned 2 of their laptops and a few others when they made all the hardware for IBM. Just be aware of the quality issues with the HP read reviews online see what issues people have.

Dells stuff is hit or miss I find.

That's fair. I usually find that HP stuff dies down after 3 years or so. Same programs and applications run slower 2-3 years later no matter what. I don't understand. You can format and run same thing but same slow issues. It's almost like their make their products to slow down after 3 yrs so you're frustrated and buy a new one lol.

WUT?!

How exactly does HP do that? Its just hardware man....

What people do is consistently click on "Yes" whenever a goddamn window pops up!! Anytime i go to someones house who is not adept in computers their windows is absolutely clogged with garbage running in the background. IE or Firefox loaded with idiotic addons and "tool bars" that take up half the screen space. Three different anti-viruses and firewalls running at the same time and then they go "Windows is running real slow....dunno why..."

Think of your computer as vehicle. The leaner and less cluttered you keep it the better it will perform, less troubles its going to cause.

One reason why I stuck to IE for 5 years. Except that I just got Opera because IE 11 sucks with GTAM :/

it's not the hardware, it windows, there's an issue with windows update that causes the computer to slow down...

I don’t think a slowing operating system is attributable to the M$ hot fixes. For Win 7, I think I have over 250 hot fixes which add around 650 mb to the drive. In general I find that 90% of people don’t do any maintenance routines on their systems. Over time the system gets bloated with temp files, log files, superseded updates, queued error reports, left over installers, memory error dump files etc. Very rarely does anyone defrag their hard drive, run a registry cleaner.
I’ve integrated the hot fixes to Windows before installing the system using DISM into the install.wim file and I see no difference in speed. Just that I don’t have to keep installing updates and restarts before all the updates are downloaded from M$ on fresh installs. The system can also have corrupted files, which I find common on peoples systems. To check that is simple and most times it can repair the system. It takes a while to complete. Check Disk will also check the drive for errors and try to correct them.
Solutions to try:
Run Ccleaner or the M$ built in one.

Run Disk Clean up =choose the radio button with clean up system files and you’ll see how many megs of garbage you have, check the box for clean up updates, those are superseded.

Run this in elevated ( as administrator) command prompt= sfc /scannow , that will fix corrupt system files. Most times, if not you can’t do anything about it. The procedure requires manual command prompts for a location of the system files, which you create on your drive and run the same sfc but with different arguments.

Run Disk Check= it has to run on the next reboot, it needs full disk access, before the system loads.
Disk Defrag = All Programs>Accessories>System Tools

This is never have issues with slowness. DFrag temp clean, registry clean removal on apps not needed and she still will run good 10 years from now. I can tell you before i learned about safe browsing habits though things were different.

I think we have identified the issue

I like all in one computers for the very reason you want one. They are clean, no mess of wires everywhere and work great. Thats my experience with iMacs over the years. This HP looks pretty sharp, though very similar to an iMac. Cant speak to the quality of HP, but in general I love the idea of an all in one computer, as long as you can change the ram yourself at the very least. I find thats the one thing I normally do. Hard drives, well I rarely every change those, and processors… by the time I am ready for a faster computer I am just getting a new computer not upgrading a machine. Each to their own, I like the all in ones.
