Aliexpress

Seems that others are feeling the same.

Bezos deserves for that stock to go into the toilet based on how he prevented the Washington Post from endorsing in 2024. Complicit and pandering.

Amazon has been a mess for a while - it's so annoying how you can search for a specific item by brand and name and it will give you a dozen or more knock-offs before *maybe* showing you what they know you want to look at. Try searching for "Klim motorcycle" and see how many of the items on the first page of results are actually Klim (motorcycle or not), for instance. It wasn't always like that. It used to be awesome.

I wanted my wife to drop all our streaming services but no - she loves them too much to give up Apple Tv, Prime Video, Netflix and who knows what else we're paying for.

A few things. It was OK. I found that items didn't ship with tracking numbers like Ali though, so it was a guessing game when it was going to show up.

I also can't stand their website/app. All the kitchsy "spin the wheel" fake discount game things, the constant popup garabage, all the fake "sales". It drives me nuts, so I just avoid even opening the app anymore.
I've thought about ordering a few times when I've seen something interesting looking in one of their ads.... then whenever I click the link I go through the same discount games (wow, I got the biggest possible discount again!), and can't find what piqued my interest in the first place. Not doing that again.

Aliexpress on the other hand - I've gotten lots of decent stuff there - including a folding brake/clutch levers, folding gear shifter, and a windscreen for my bike, all of which I've been more than happy with.

I do have a negative experience to report; and i'll preface that with saying i've been buying Aliexpress stuff for probably 4? years now with no real issue until now.

Ordered something relatively inexpensive (a key chain), it was reported as delivered...but not to my door. I lodged a dispute with Aliexpress and was told to provide 'proof' that i didn't have it in my possession. When I asked how I was supposed to do that they directed me to contact the local company doing the delivery...except i never received any info on who was delivering it or where i could contact them. I took screenshots of the tracking webpage etc that showed no contact info to no avail. Aliexpress sided with the seller and I ate my $8.

Now in full disclosure I live in a pretty badly designed townhouse complex, where every row of townhouses has the same unit numbers. Good chance one of my neighbours got it and just kept it.

Not crying over it, $8 is whatever..but some food for thought.

I have and will continue to buy from there...but i'll be somewhat more wary going forward.
That sucks.

I've only had 1 issue with AliExpress. Ordered 2 items, only 1 in the package which listed 2 shipped. Same thing asked for proof, took photos of open package and 1 item. But in my case they reimbursed me, no questions asked.
But yeah inexpensive items, same, I wasn't going to lose my mind over $6.

The problem with Alibaba, Aliexpress, and Temu is that they are all from the PRC. Quality of the items are so so at best with a lot of counterfeit products. Buyer beware!

That's not the only problem.

Look into what they put into their clothes that companies over here won't put into clothing. It's not stuff you want on your body...

It's all the same stuff you get from Amazon. Or Best Buy. Or Canada Computers. Or 80% of retail anywhere.
The majority of the stuff you buy from these stores is from China.

Here's yesterdays AliExpress order that I made a little over a week ago. In this case it was charging cables for a few different applications, but the packaging should look quite familiar to anyone who ever orders this sort of stuff on Amazon, because it's the exact same.

I just looked, and that one brand in the bottom left is also sold on Amazon.ca and Amazon.com for that matter, difference is I got 5 of those nice braided cables for $8.55 CAD versus (closest I could find with a quick search), $18 for 3 on Amazon.ca. So the same number of cables on Amazon would be $30 instead of $8.55.

So yeah, I'll cut out the Bezos middleman and stop feeding the Amazon machine any longer since it's all the same stuff in the end.

I need a new pair of foamie grips for my motorcycle - ordered them on Amazon last time for $10 for the set, found them last night on Ali for $4. I guarantee they're both from China.

2 weeks ago, I placed an order for soft lower chaps for my bike from sagebrushdesigns a Canadian company. Now I could of went for the less expensive items that were fabric but they looked like crap. The difference between the 2 items was 25ish dollars. I say money well spent

I am now specifically searching out Canadian manufacturers for items for which there's likely to be one - motorcycle clothing or gear, car parts, pet food, etc etc etc, it's sometimes possible. Things like iPhone cables and other electronic gizmos, not so much though.

Here's a good website I found for searching for stuff.

I haven't tried Watson motorcycle gloves. I have some of their work gloves. One got caught on a nail and the seam ripped. I saw a rep at a store and told them what happened. They mailed be a few new pairs. I can't complain about that service. I find the knuckle protection on the ones I have hard and uncomfortable (far more uncomfortable than any pain from banging my knuckles).
