Alibaba anyone order stuff from here

I order stuff from Ali all the time - and as many said it can be hit and miss. Treat it like eBay - it's just a platform for the independent sellers, with Ali as a guarantor that if something will go wrong you will get your money back (keep in mind that this "guarantee" not always works). Read the reviews, they are usually helpful, though I noticed that some reviews are 100% fake.

Regarding delivery times - they have launched a so called "Fast delivery" last year. If seller is participating in this, you will see "Fast Delivery on orders over C$ 11.03" one the item description. So if you hit the amount, they will consolidate the items somewhere in China, fly them to Canada and hand it to Canada Post for delivery. This way it usually takes 2 to 3 weeks to get your stuff.

As well, some items have "Free return" - in this case they will give you a label to ship it to a warehouse somewhere in Mississauga.

Most of the stuff on AliExpress is actually made from the original blueprints straight from the major vendors.

ie. Touratech wants a product made cheap, so they send the designs to China for them to manufacture. China factory then decides to keep making the product sans the Touratech label, and sells it direct on AliExpress for a fraction of TT's MSRP.

Only difference between the TT part and the AliExpress part is QA, support and warranty/returns.

Here's the TT Toolbox for $178 USD:

Thanks for this. Touratech make a KTM one I think for my bike. I never bought it as it had an outrageous MSRP. Time to have another look.

One thing to note is that some items have a lost purchasing cost but outrageous shipping charge. While other may cost a little more but either free or lower shipping.

I noticed that the last time I was on there, and figured that was their strategy to guarantee profits even if something were returned. Do they refund the shipping costs, or only the product cost?

My experience has been uneven ...stuff takes a long time to arrive and sometimes is not what was advertised. A 35L bicycle trunk arrived as a 3.5L..annoying but instant refund and they said keep the item ( has a useful rain cover ).
I tend to stick with Amazon here or the online mcycle retailers but no question there is savings.
I've scored freebies from Amazon too as they did not have a free return depot in Cairns but think they've switched to Aus Post now.

The shipping is literally "a slow boat to (from) China"...

I have been looking at that tool box for some time but some of the listing have a ridiculous shipping.
The listing you posted has a $50.98 shipping charge for an item that is only $36.78 and relatively light and small in size.

The other option was the Givi S250, however it is not listed as a compatible item for my 2020 DL1050. I was sort of surprised.
I did some rough measurements of the Outback Trekker case mounts and the bike and I sort of see why it is not a recommended item. Doesn't seem to be enough space between the racks and the frame of the bike.
Same goes for the TT case off of AliEx.

I might have to find a soft case /pouch alternative.

A 3d printed mold wrapped in fibreglass and you can have your own custom tool box.

Oh boy. Tempting.
If I had the time to allocate to this kind of project and access to 3D printer I totally would do it.

Printing is the easy part. Most of the time is in creation of the model.
If there was no other alternative available than for sure I would attempt it.
But even if I can't find another tool box to mount to the side of my Trekker mounts, I would just put that small zip up pouch into the side case.

Doing it the way you suggested it would be more for personal satisfaction and test myself with another "challange" . At the end of the day, the time needed to complete a one off project like this plus the material needed, the cost would be much higher than buying something that works almost as well or possibly even better.

Not that I have never done anything like that before. I can be stubborn.

Most guys go for a tool tube. We ran with one on one of our trips and it worked great. There are lockable versions as well.

This is just one version, they're all over the net. You can build your own as well.

I will give the tube another thought/chance. They haven't really appealed to me in the past.
Their price point is more attractive then they are themselves.
I have seen the PVC home made models as well.

Ugh Alibaba and to some extent Ali Express makes my head hurt. First it's hard to know what words to use for a search, because alot of non relevant stuff comes up for results. Then in the product title they cram a bunch of words just to get listed so it impossible to figure out what the actual product is.... and yeah shipping costs and times are all over the place. I found a seller with the item I want, but the cost of the shipping is more then the product, other sellers have similar item different price, but send by boat so....Maybe it's not worth the hassle.

What are you looking for?
Maybe we can help find the right listing.

Thanks for assist, just venting a bit. I've found what I am looking for. Just need to narrow it down to something I feel comfortable purchasing. Also taking a break from looking at stuff, was making my head hurt.. lol
All good thanks!

In the watch thread for more details... I ordered a Timegrapher from Aliexpress on Feb 8, deliver on Feb 27. Very well packed, shipping was fairly quick and so far it works well.

What a sweet surprise.
Placed an order for 6 different items on March 22.
All the items were from different sellers with delivery dates ranging from April 21 to May 25.

I was getting notification from CP recently about a package coming may and it has cleared customs etc in last sever days. Was a little surprised as I thought it was too soon for these items and I wasn't expecting anything else.

I got to the mailbox and 2 packages are there for me. 4 out of the 6 items have been delivered.

The funny thing is that 3 small bubbles envelopes which were individually addressed to me the the Chinese mail labels were bundled together into one Canada Post mailing bag with CP postage. Originating from some place on Dixie Rd in Mississauga.

Overall, I'm satisfied. Still waiting for the last 2 items.
