Alcohol and cancer

Alcoholism runs in my family , they claim addiction personality disorder is a thing and I guess they are right , it skips generations. Parts of my family drank a dairy farm , a trucking company, many marriages and some good jobs. And many others did just fine . I’ve had my issues with booze , but blessed I can also stop for months at a time , I doesn’t consume me , wondering where my next drink is coming from . I hope people that need help can find it when they need it . I’ve seen people that have the hooks into them deep and it’s not pretty .

I haven't really drank much in the last 20 years. In the last 10 years I have probably had 40 drinks total. Over the last 2 weeks I had 3 beers over the vacation at an all inclusive. Late teens and early 20 i drank quite a bit then it lost all appeal to me after that.

'Like so many... Hell, when i was 18-23 the weekend started on Thursday..!

A psychologist I used to know told me that pretty much everyone is an alcoholic at some point in life.
"Show me ten college students and you can bet eight of them meet the definition of alcoholic"
'Fortunately most out grow it.

I don’t understand these words…

When we go to an all inclusive, especially with friends…beers start at 9am and end whenever we go to bed.

Thankfully I sweat most of it out, and the detox when we get home is a shocker.

Might be some drinking going on tonight…but not much as tomorrow is a Monday.

Just sayin' :sneaky:
Alcohol does not directly kill brain cells, but it can cause brain damage that harms brain cells and deteriorates brain function:

  • Damages dendrites
Alcohol damages the ends of neurons, called dendrites, which makes it difficult for neurons to communicate with each other.

  • Impairs neurogenesis
Alcohol consumption hinders the process of neurogenesis, which is the creation of new neurons in the brain.

  • Causes thiamine deficiency
Chronic alcohol abuse can lead to a deficiency in thiamine, or vitamin B1, which is essential for the brain to function properly. A severe thiamine deficiency can lead to Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, a neurological disorder that causes brain cell loss.

    • Damages blood vessels
Regular heavy drinking can damage blood vessels in the brain, which can lead to high blood pressure and increase the risk of stroke.
    • Increases risk of head injuries
People who drink too much alcohol have a higher risk of repeated head injuries, which can cause lasting damage to the brain

'Bottom line is... It's poison.
Literally.
Sure, we've managed to formulate it into all manner of flavors, but in the end... Alcohol is not meant to go inside your body.

But hey... it's a poison the government can tax, so....whoopee!

Does anyone else remember the old LCBO stores Lol...
The non descript, sterile places with no product on display...?
The golf pencils and little cards to fill out indicating what devil's brew you wanted to buy..?
The clerk disappearing into the back and bringing out your sin already in a plain brown paper bag...?
Letting you sneak a peek just to make sure it was the stuff you wanted..?
'Felt like you were buying a dirty magazine.

*if you remember what a magazine was

Trying to find the video of Cliff explaining why your brain is like a herd of buffalo.

I was close to proposing to a chick but she dumped me. Ten years later after I was married she called to appologise as a part of an AA 12 step program. I'm glad that bullet missed me.

A few drinks a month is the norm except when a cork or two get popped with company. Wine civilizes a meal when in moderation.

My bigger concern is FAS fetal alcohol syndrome.

Indeed .....very difficult to deal with a citizen who played no role in their kleptomania.
Gee thanks mom.
I know a family where all three kids have or had mental disabilities. Dyslexia, speech impediment, and in one case failure to mature beyond 14. Physically he's 67 but he has the responsibility level of a 24 year old.

Th family wasn't a bunch of alcoholics but their bar was central to their entertaining. All this was before the links between drinking and FAS.
