Discussion amongst my group of misfits at work today about our "old days"...

What was the first album you bought with your own money and how old were you?

This might be more for the... uhm, somewhat more "vintage" GTAMers, but share your story if there is one and if you can remember it

Mine was Pete Townshend's "Empty Glass".
It was Summer 1980, the record had been released in April...
I was 14 years old and walked about ten kilometers to Sherway Gardens from my house in Mississauga.
I can't recall the record store (probably SAMs), but using my paper route money I bought the album and walked home.
Damn... that was 44 years ago. :-(

The first new album I bought for myself, with my own money. I waited in line in front of Sam’s the day it was released.

I think the first album that I ever bought was “Ziggy Stardust” by David Bowie when I was about 12. I’ll still listen to it cranked out in the garage and it still sounds great. I’m not a huge David Bowie fan but I think it’s one of the few albums that is absolutely perfect from start to finnish.

Since I’m a youngen on here…My first one was…

Certainly not my fist album but first with my own money.
Firsts were "Sesame Street Fever" on 8 track.
First Requests for gifts were Phil Collins "No Jacket Required" & Bryan Adams "Reckless" (Cassettes)

Cheap trick at budokan
Nieghbour kid used to bring his boombox on the school bus. That tape was the only tape he played. Love it.

I wasn't really into buying records, but when I was in college and I heard Grace Jone "The Apple Stretching" on Western university's station I went out and bought the album. I maybe own 4 records and one is a drag race sound effects record I couldn't resist at a garage sale.

Bought in 1974, Towers department store with birthday money. Still have it, though in rough shape.

Wore out all my cassette tapes.

Rebought them on CDs when they came out.

Now I pay Spotify every single month to play the same albums that I've already bought twice.

I've got sucker tattooed on my forehead...
