Albums that are cool

hey, try the album 'tommy' by the who, and 'thick as a brick' (full album, not just the shortened song played on the radio) by jethro tull

+1 on both suggestions! Add The Who's Quadrophenia to the list as well!

The Roger Water solo albums are great Prog rock concepts too.

Umphreys McGee for a more modern take, but the live albums are the best.

2. Jimmy Hendrix - Are You Experienced

4. Miles Davis - ******* Brew
5. Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
6. Peter Gabriel - So
7. Michael Jackson - Thriller

Live eviL (read it backwards)

I have a few suggestions:

1. Prong - Cleansing
2. Radiohead - OK Computer
3. 54-40 - Casual Viewing
4. A Perfect Circle - Emotive (or Mer de Noms if you want original songs)
5. Aerosmith - Greatest Hits (the original from 1980)
6. Asia (self-titled)
7. Bahaus - Crackle
8. Foo Fighters (self-titled)

Too many good albums out there, just sharing a few to try. I picked some iconic ones.

holy crap .. a greatest hits album is not a concept album, people.

were lookign for concept albums ? if you dont know what a concept album is, i dont want to hear from you.....lol

i dont want to get baked, and listen to thriller.
aGAIN..

Albums like The Wall, Animals, Joe's garage, Pet Sounds, Wish You were here, Tommy.

You mentioned both concept and cool riffs. So I'll throw a couple of more obscure ones into the mix. One of my favourite concept albums is from a little known Brit band called City Boy. They were produced by Mutt Lange and the guitar work and production Is really well done. It's called "the day the earth caught fire" (even has a motorcycle song in it!)

As for cool riffs, check out a band called Budgie they are a three piece band and the singer leaves a little to be desired, but the guitar work and riffs by Tony Bourge are great. As usual, their early albums are better, Budgie, Squawk, Never turn your back on a friend and In for the kill. Oh yeh, these are all 70s-80s.

Budgie is great .. in the right mood, anyway. Surprisingly good for a metal band.

Zappa, Just another band from LA.

Check out Steely Dan - The Royal Scam or Aja - non concept but some very cool riffs.

had some Grand Funk Railroad going last night... now theres a powerfull band...

its funny, after listening to a bunch of tunes, the really popular ones suck, and hte obscure stuff is awesome....lol

I'll suggest:
The Amazing Mr. Bickford (1987) by the mighty Frank Zappa. This is some of his his orchestral music- with a crazy visual background of live action, traditional and clay animation.

Also- if you have a decent surround sound system i'd highly recommend checking out Rings Around the World on DVD by the Super Furry Animals (2001). The DVD has an animated video to each music track and the musical styles (often within the same song) are all over the map in a good way.
Check out the tracks 'Receptacle for the Respectable' or 'Sidewalk Serfer Girl'. Not sure this is exactly a 'concept' album- but the video ties it all together- and well worth a listen in surround.
Hope you like.

Yes - Tales from Topographic Oceans
Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory

I have to agree with these two choices. If your open minded to a little heavy guitar I'd like to add the following but I don't think I would do it baked.

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals
Alice Cooper - Welcome to my Nightmare
Judas Priest - Nostradamus
Roger Waters - Amused to Death
Rick Wakemen - Six wives of Henry the VIII
Dream Theater - Six degrees of inner turbulence (disc 2)

Not sure if I'd say this was a concept but it follows the same theme.
Dream Theater - Train of thought

and have a listen to the Dream Theater's song Octovarian. ( 24 minutes you might like baked. )

Enjoy!
