Airhawk Dual Sport Air Cushion

Anyone have any experience with these? There's a Chinese knockoff, but the reviews say it leaks air. Need something like this as my seat is a plank of wood.

I like mine, but it's not great for aggressive riding.

It 'disconnects' you from the bike when you ride, so depending on your style of riding...may not be good. It's great for a highway jaunt though.

The trick is...don't inflate it all the way. Just enough to have some air in there, but not too much.

Thanks. You have the Airhawk or a knockoff? The Airhawk doesn't quite work on a supermoto...but the pain relief would be worth the esthetics while awaiting a Seat Concepts Seat. Wish they made a rectangular one...

I can't speak to this specific model, but I used a borrowed Airhawk for the 2021 season as there was a very long lead time for my Terry Adcox custom seat for my Tracer GT.

The OEM seat was horrible, The Airhawk turned it into seat that allowed 8 - 10 hour days. The key to inflation is that less is more. After a bit of trial and error over the first couple of days I adjusted mine until it was barely inflated. If you're floating on the seat you have too much air in it, you have to be "grounded" on the seat with the air bladder filling in the voids to effective spread your weight out. On the Tracer, I was grounded along the back edge of the Airhawk and was concerned this would result in a sore tailbone, but not an issue.

Got the actual AirHawk…

In all honesty I may have the pillion one around here somewhere also. But need to clean out and look for it.

I have one and I prefer it over a Corbin seat. I use mine with a stock seat on an FZ6.

I lent it to @shanekingsley for his recent Solstice ride and I'm pretty sure he like it too.

It's not a dual sport one but same thing just a different shape.
I won't be needing it for the next month or so ,so you are more than welcome to try it out.

edit: Corbin seats are great but the one I have for my FZ6 was not rally helpful. Found it to be too hard.

I had a small one and ended up getting a bigger one for my fat assets. It worked well on the Wee.
The tiger seat is different, so I'm not sure if I'll need it on rides under 500 km.

I got one of these Saddlemen gel seat pads from Royal for under $100 (BTW they have a no tax event ending at midnight tonight). Made a huge difference, but then my Hawk has a fiberglass race trail with a thin foam pad. I didn't notice much of a disconnected feeling, and forgot I even had it after a while. I also mounted it "backwards" to give my thighs some cushion instead of digging into the bodywork. Only downside I can see vs. the AirHawk is it doesn't deflate for storage.

I managed to do most of Shane's route in 2 days with no soreness.

I’ve had two of the real airhawks. Still have a dual sport one. Didn’t like it at first because it felt like sitting on a bouncy castle. Deflated it and it was better but to get the best effect deflate it to what you think is the minimum, then take half that air out. You really don’t need much in at all. I’m not selling mine and it gets stashed in my side pannier for when my arse needs a break.

Mine has been a blessing. 3000 kms since Saturday. 2500 of those kms have been as aggressive as I've ever ridden.......and my bum is relatively happy.

I have an original dual sport air hawk that has a rubber bladder and works well with no issues. All the newer air hawk bladders are a different material. I remember reading (either here or ADVrider forum) that they aren't as good but can't remember why. I agree with all the comments made here about minimal inflation.

Thanks for your responses. Would the Pillion seat fit the 701 better (being a motocross style seat) than the actual dualsport seat?

vs:

Looking back at the original video and the length of the seat, I think the pillion air hawk would be a better shape. As you sit on the air hawk it would spread out perhaps providing some cushioning in the edge area where the seat transitions from horizontal to vertical. The pointy end of the DS version wouldn't do that.

That's what I'm thinking. In this video the guy is doing long hauls. I think he's got the Airhawk placed to the back of the seat for breaks from aggressive enduro riding as I sit much further forward on the Supermoto version of this bike...the square area of the seat. I think the Pillion Airhawk shape would match this part of the seat much better.

This video wouldn't offer much comfort as no one sits in this area of the seat:

@Gary - we must have crossed paths somewhere - I just came back from Gap and the area... 3200+ km for me...

I'm using Airhawk knockoff from Amazon, this is 3rd season with it - it didn't lose any air, and still works great. For me, it's a must at this point...
