Air fryers

I'm looking but seeing mixed reviews on some. Obviously the term "Air fryer" gets abused. Some are just toaster ovens with a basket but no special elements. I would like it to be multi purpose, microwave, convection, toaster oven etc. to clean off the counter. Any loves or hates? I've seen them from~$100 to $500 +.

You can get an air fryer that does good air frying only for 80-200

If you want multi function one you'll have to pay way more. Heck even instant pot has its version of an air fryer. But it doesnt air fry as well as a standalone airfryer, master of none kinda deal.

Air frying is basically a more intense convection oven with a heating element right over the food (kinda broil without burning your food as much lol) the air is pushed more forcefully around compared to the convection ovens though so you get that extra kwispiness. And since its a small space it heats up faster

Yeah I bought and returned 2 of the Intant Vortex plus 10" Air Fryers. It was a mutli product type device. Both were defective with the control panel not working (I couldn't turn it off or open the door after the timer finished). Also it reeked of plastic and glue, so there was no way I was going to cook food in there. After that I just went and bought a typical Black & Decker toast oven Crisp N' Bake which has a air fryer built in. Ok maybe more like a convection oven, not as forcefull as a modern air fryer. Works fine, fries and frozen breaded stuff comes out great, and doesn't smell like chemicals. And wasn't too pricey either. Oh and pizza! That's been a nice bonus.

FYI these are the exact items
Instant pot vortex
B&D toaster oven

Have a 3 rack air fryer that has a bake option and a pizza oven. Can't remember the last time I used my stove.

Bought one of these last spring;

don't think we've touched a frying pan much since, oven gets a lot less use. i like it, the ability to alert you when food is done/turn it/shake (via an app) is neat for the wife, she doesn't have the patience to check on food.

I got that cheap big black and decker combo, on sale, to replace my old broken toaster oven. Just about one year in; the timer stops working, and I'm convinced it's not heating to right degrees. I do have oven thermometer so i suppose I can check it. So not recommending.

The box says 2 year warranty, wonder how much hassle it is to replace this $100 thing.

Mine (I think also black and decker) seems to be iffy on detecting when it's closed. Gotta fiddle with it a bit, also on 2 years...

Got the Instant Pot one during the holidays for $100 from CT
Been enjoying it so far, crispy wings and porkchops and cleanup is a breeze
Only regret not getting one with a low temp/dehydration mode to make some jerky

Recommend picking up an oil spritzer and filling with your fav high temp oil (y)

Good timing. Wife told me today she wants an air fryer to try.
My problem is limited counter space and a wife that likes it open. The ideal machine is a convection oven, microwave, toaster oven, air fryer. One problem is that a failure shuts down four appliances. The other is that you can't make toast at the same time as you heat soup.

Friends installed a built-in turbo oven. Basically what you are looking for. Costs more than four separate appliances though.

We have a magical kitchen tool that my wife has FINALLY started to use after close to a decade. It's a Thermomix unit. Really handy and she loves it.

But it doesn't air fry.

Keep all the small appliances. Just fold them out when needed and back in when done.

If they are plugged in within the cabinet, there is a 99% chance it would not be code compliant (you need the cupboard door to cut power to the cabinet when closed).
