After market seats.. Thoughts?

Stock seats for me and most riders here are a Pia.. On several bikes I have gone to Alpha trim in Mississauga. Did this, did that. then let me take the seat and ride it. Go back several days later, a few more alterations and I end up with a seat that is just right for me. Adjusting the width and height of the seat.

Yup.. After everyone's response I figured it's such a personal thing. I think I'll go with custom and get a better understanding. Half the price of name brands too, so it's worth the risk. Thanks all. ?

I think in general when you go custom you get a better seat. I can't speak about the quality of materials but the fact that it is made for your specific body is a huge plus. Everything else is just like buying a suit off the rack.

Buying aftermarket is hit and miss. I have 2 stock seats which I switch between depending on the riding I am doing. One for longer runs, the other for bopping around. But neither satisfies my needs completely. I actually have a 3rd seat from Mustang which turned out to be a bad purchase. It's a solo seat that didn't work for me at all. Now I am stuck with it. (yeah I can sell it to recover the some costs, but haven't yet)

HD actually has a nice little service were you can try out a seat from them for no cost. Not sure if other vendors do this.

Keep in mind... You may think an after market seat is spendy, but... How much are you willing to put up with the discomfort of your bike's OEM seat..?

I put a Sargent on my FJR after one season on the OEM seat.... 'Best $500 I've ever spent.
'Went from lasting an hour or two in the saddle before becoming pained and uncomfortable to being able to ride all day with zero discomfort.

I had a local upholsterer rework my oem Ducati seat with high-density foam to my specs (padding added to create less forward slope and more butt cushioning). Cost was $40 and took 2 days with the easy option of having quick adjustment after should I want it. Versus $500+ for an aftermarket seat and taking the chance of not liking it when it arrives.
Do you remember the name of the upholsterer? That's a good price.
I was recommended to a guy in Innisfil, nice work but he wants $300 to rework the stock seat including foam and labour.
