Advice... zx14 vs Concourse 14

The 2020 was redesigned, it's got some cool features not found on the 2019 so it's worth the extra money in my opinion. You get a quickshifter, leaning abs, a big color screen with bluetooth, the display even tells you you how many degrees you lean.

I was looking at dealer websites and don't see many of them at the dealers. I guess they don't sell many of them so they don't keep them in the showroom. The kawasaki dealer in guelph has a 2020 model for a few hundred dollars off. I'd take a leftover 2020 if it was at a significant discount, but if the difference is only a measly few hundred bucks I'd rather just get a 2021.

Anyways I'm gonna start visiting dealers as soon as the weather is nicer and see if I can get a decent deal on a Ninja 1000. Oh yeah, gotta get an insurance quote first, I'm worried that "ninja" in its name might do something crazy to the rates.

dont forget cruise control

If it has decent ergos and wind protection its a winner

How is the stock suspension on bikes like the Ninja 1000 or Versys 1000?

And 2up capabilities?
Yeah 2 up is supported.

don’t think they have fancy semi active suspension options.

the versys SE up spec version does I believe

At that price point though, its priced real close to all the European competition

An answer to a question never asked?
Haha, if only we had something that gave us a visual indicator of how far we were leaning and how much further we could lean before we ran out of tire. Hmmmm. Headscratch.

I don't want to know that answer. Because I will then be faced with the reality that my imagination is not how far I'mactually leaning. And then I will lean over more and dump the bike. Kind of like the photographers in the Smoky's - deathtraps they are.

The Ninja 1000 was near the top of my shopping list but the far less practical Tuono was just too tempting. The Ninja 1000 is definitely not a big seller here, but used values seemed to stay quite high. This was before Covid madness kicked in on used bikes, but I found it and other true sport-tourers like the VFR and Triumph Sprint ST carried their value like crazy. Part of this I attributed to not many being sold here, so the used market had limited supply.

Aprilias do the same thing. I assumed it would record your max, but you need to connect a phone to a Bluetooth module for that. The only time I look at it is rocking the bike back and forth at a stop light to see it still works...

the XR isn't active lean, it only records your lowest lean achieved on the ride/per side. Seems more logical if you ask me, who TF is going to look at it mid corner.

I used to tour on my ZX14 with a set of Givi V35 luggage. Plenty comfy...just doesn’t handle that great when you get into the twisties. Also had several N1Ks and they are much better than the big 1400 for that bit. Plenty of power too. I still prefer the triple of my Tracer to either.

3 riding friends had ZX-14's and never had any issues. I considered the Connie a couple year sago but couldn't get over the looks. Heard it's a great motor in a capable touring package though.
Also shopped the Ninja 1000(sx) and with factory hardbags available and a nice meaty power curve it's still an excellent option. Had better suspension with the more recent update (like 2017ish iirc). Likely would have chosen it if my wife hadn't needed a comfier pillion spot.

I did own a z1000 a few years ago but sold it for my VFR. To answer your insurance question I pay more for my VFR than I did for the 1000. Don’t know why that is and never did get an answer.

The 14r is a dream bike of mine but I think I may stick with my trusty 02 vfr for awhile yet. Maybe invest in some hard bags for it.

High praise for the new ninja 1000

It records it when you have the screen in track mode (the screen with the lap timer). Then you can go over it to see max lean and max brake pressure applied. I don’t remember if it does max speed on the ‘review’ screen or not though.

Good to know! Should reread the owners manual now so I can actually take advantage of the features those summer. Only read it when I bought it two years ago, have clearly forgotten a fair bit. Mostly see track mode when I forget to reset the tripmeter at the gas station and try to reset it on the move...

Ugh.....I have never been able to reset my trip meter while moving! But if you don’t reset it, good luck guessing when your tank is empty!
Today I averaged 10.5 L/100.... man I love this bike!
