Advice on purchasing new tires?

I'm due for some new tires on my Sport-Tourer.
Pretty standard, its on 120/70 // 180/55s right now. Same rubbers it had out the factory (Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier - Pirelli Scorpion Sync)
I've looked up the prices on the big Canadian moto shopping sites...
I was wondering if anyone knows anywhere that you could get a good deal. I'm not expecting much because we're looking for good quality tires for MOTORCYCLES (not exactly a cheap hobby), but I've driven past a lot of places that sell tires in industrial areas of Brampton & Milton, haven't walked in and talked to anyone in those places so I'm not sure if they carry motorcycle tires to start with.

But where do you guys shop for tires to get the right product at a nice price?

Thanks!

Ace Moto Tech in Milton.

Decent deals on tires. Not sure what he has in stock right now.

Dunlop roadsport2 are nice for a sporty street tire.

Dunlop Roadsmart 3 are great sport touring tires. I find they're cooked long before they're worn out. Depends how hard they're run.

If you can put them on yourself, my go to is usually fortnine.

Other than that, "black and round" is my suggestion. They're all decent.

my go to for sport+ touring

I buy them myself, remove the wheels and take them to Rosey Toes. As i recall he asked for $40 and told me to come back in an hour, this was a walk in.

I tried REVCO for my last 2 pairs. They were the only place I could find ADV tires last spring, my first order took 2 weeks to ship -- they apologized and told me that wasn't normal. I ordered another set last year, they shipped in 3 days. Prices were great, but don't expect 'same day' order processing you normally get from FortNine.

I keep shopping around, but always end up buying from Pete's.

Aprilia sent those out with one Dunlop and one Pirelli??? Crazy Italians...

BTW, Michelin has an off-road tire rebate on now, and Dunlop has multiple rebates on as well. Check my Tire Rebates thread:

GP Bikes will price match if you tell them the price of another reseller. $50 to install but that was 2 years ago when I bought mine there. Only downside they are usually very busy this time of year so service timing might be an issue.

$50 each or for the pair?

I really like these tires too. Usually buy them from Fortnine, Pete's or Ace MotoTech in Milton.

Last spring I tried out a set of Road 6's and they were just as good for grip as the Road 5's and probably gave around 10-15% more mileage. More cost, but amazing tire like the versions before.

Good prices here:

Always use to get my tires from Pete’s Superbike when I was going through 2 or 3 sets a season. I’d order them online and they would be on my doorstep a day or two later, can’t beat their prices and convenience. GP Bikes prices are pretty good too. However, that was when I did my own tire swaps. I don’t think it’s fair to buy your tires online and expect your local shop to install them for next to nothing. Support your local bike shops or they won’t be around when you need them.

I'm using the Dunlop Roadsmart 3 on my Tracer GT, purchased at Pete's. First time I've used it, good tire, lots of grip in the corners, good mileage so far + great price.

On the much heavier ST I've used Bridgestone and Metzler over the years, all good tires. The Road 5 or 6 are very good tires, only you can decide if you want to pay the price premium Michelin demands.

In terms of best price to your door just open a few windows in your browser for Pete's, Fortnine + whoever, add tires to the cart and see what the out the door price is for the tires, shipping + HST. For me, I've found it is almost always Pete's.

I'm not too fussed about tire brands as in my mind most are good but one of my criteria for my sport tourer has been a tire that didn't have a high wear factor. I was averaging about 9K per year with soft compound tires but don't do any aggressive riding so got tired of replacing them annually. Now getting almost twice that distance with the higher compound.

Here in Mississauga I go to Robert's house for minor bike work and tire purchase/installs.

Be careful with Pro6 on Kipling

I purchased a set of dunlops couple of years ago and they came with a mail in rebate. ($50 I think)

At the time of purchase they took all my info including email address and said they would file the mail in rebate for me.

I have yet to receive the rebate or any email about it being filed in my name.

Called them back several times and they said they would look into it and never did call me back.

I have no proof but I have a feeling they filed the rebate in their name and claimed it and used the prepaid Credit Card.

If you're taking the bike in to have the tires swapped, make sure you're going through the service department of the shop. Someone here is saying that they ordered tires, probably from the parts department and the shop later told them that the buyer needs to remove the wheels from the bike. At the same time I've had the same shop, match Pete's price, take the bike and swap the tires, a few years ago. So something weird is going on with the transaction.

Contact Dunlop rebate administration at: help@datarebate.com

Tell them your story and they should be able to help you. At a minimum they should be able to confirm your suspicion. They reversed a rejection on my rebate when I bought a pair online from Pete's Superbike, even though they are identified by Dunlop as a PRO Dealer. I didn't look closely enough at the fine print, which said online sales were excluded.

Good idea.
Just called Pro6 and waiting for an email with a copy of the receipt. I know I have it somewhere but it was easier to call and ask for a re-issue.

EDIT:

I called and spoke with a rep at Data Rebate.
At first, due to the time frame of this situation, their approach was leaning towards "tough luck, its been too long"

However, as I explained the story more, he warmed up helping out a little more.

I have send them an email describing the situating and they are looking into it.

My shop charges $50 to mount one tire and that's if you take the wheel off and bring it to them. $75 per tire if you get them to take the wheel off. $150 to swap out two tires isn't "next to nothing".

If you buy the tires from the dealer, they'll give you a discount on the labour, but it's still not free. No place around here will do it for free.

In the GTA, do they mount and balance tires for free if you buy the tires from them? If so, might have to factor that in the total cost.

I was on a U.S. trip 5 - 6 years ago and needed a front tire in Marietta, OH . Large powersports dealer there. Price was $90 for the tire, ride in, tire changed, balanced, ride out. Great deal. Never seen a free install deal in the GTA.

I've used Rosey Toes in the past for carry in changes and balancing $20 or $25 a wheel.

Currently use Mikeymoto. $20 / wheel carry in, double that if you want to do ride in.

I always do carry in as I can clean the areas hard to reach when the wheels are on + pull the brakes pads, clean the pistons + caliper pins etc.....
