Advice for visually impared (or people who want more perphreal vision)

Im new to street riding but have been driving for years on dirt. When I first got on the road the one thing I found trick was changing lanes/merging. Because I have no sight in my left eye, I have a larger blind spot then most, requiring me to damn near turn around to check over my left shoulder. Right side, im no different then anyone else.

After adjusting my mirrors for better side view, I remembered the little bubble mirrors people often put on vans etc.

I picked up a pair of the tiny ones, (about the size of a toonie, maybe a bit larger) and put them on the bottom of each of my mirrors on the bike. NIGHT AND DAY difference. Still need to do a shoulder check but with the little bubbles and my mirrors positioned correctly, I have virtually no blind spots. Ive done some testing (in controlled environment) and watching a car come up behind me from about 20 car lenghts behind until it was viewable in my normal line of sight, it never once left my view.

I am able to see it behind me in the big mirror. Both mirrors as its near me, and then the little bubble until its basically beside me.

If you have vision issues i cant recommend these mirrors enough. If you want more viewing angle, again, fantastic addition.

I always have those on my trucks because of how handy they are.

+1 for suggesting this. :)

They are handy for sure. I had them on a bike I rode for a bit. I found I looked at them too much sometimes and had to remind myself to shoulder check.

+1 I'm also blind in my left eye but have been riding and driving for over 10 years. Never thought of installing additional mirrors but doesn't hurt to try. I just stick to the farthest left lane and do less lane changing. Also always have to be vigilant of my surroundings.

Having only 5% vision in my left eye (similar to trying to see through wax paper), I'm in a simular situation. Was never a major issue on the street, but I shoulder checked often. I know the perhiferal vision in my right eye is better than average just for having lived this way for so long.

Wow - what is it with left eyes? Mine is something like 20/55 and the right is 20/20. The bubble mirror is a good idea - the left shoulder checks take a helluva toll on my neck.

Where did you buy the loonie size bubble mirror?

Most problems crop up in the left eye because the majority of the population is right eye dominant (like handedness and foot forward preference). I have Amblyopia in my left eye, and have a blind spot dead centre.

The big mirrors on the Burgman cover pretty well but might get a set of these as well

apparently they really cover the blindspot.
I find the little ones too hard to actually recognize what is where.

Mirrors were bought at Canadian Tire (caledonia fwiw). I think they were 5$ or so. Under 10$ for sure.

I have been blind in my left eye since I was 13 (lost it in 1991 in freak accident playing baseball). Suck, but adapted. 13 years with 2 eyes. nearly 21 with only 1..

Nice to know im not the only nutter taking a potentially dangerous activity on with a strike against me before i even start :)
